Blaupunkt's thin speaker description Is this any different from the way their subs work? What do you think of the design?
hmmm, i've seen speakers with magnets on the cone and replacing the dustcap area so i guess slappin it right in the middle makes sense i'd be hard-pressed to spend that much money on some damn coax's thoug.
Honestly, this speaker looks pretty cool... The "need" for a really low-profile speaker is just really an obvious one. What's interesting is that it's every bit as simple as XBL2... A really simple thing. The question is it's effectiveness. "Fringe field" is sure the right name!! The motor is simply a traditional one shrunk down to miniature, with two motors stacked on top of each other, top-plate to top-plate. But, the voice coil isn't actually suspended in the magnetic gap... the voice coil goes outside the motor, so the motor is tiny... Which would seem to limit the "B" in BL... not much magnetic flux... So, not much fringe field, I'd think. Hmm.... Interesting design though, really a practical idea, I'm ALL for mids with shallow depth! ...btw.. what's this sign supposed to mean? --> :ss:
That's exactly what I was thinking. Probably not a good design for subs. But for mids, it probably would work pretty well. I wonder if having the voice coil so close to the magnets, but outside the "gap" would cause a problem.
