Please don't start another best car speaker thread...there is already one.

Basically all speakers suck...some just suck less than others. (not my line but i had to say it)

What ever 4 X 6 you choose, I would recommend a bass blocker on them. In fact get a real capacitor, go to your local car audio shop and tell them you need a 99mfd capacitor.

You can also find them at most electronics parts suppliers. Tell them you need a 99mfd non-polar (sometimes called bi-polar) electrolytic capacitor, around 50 to 100 working volts. (that way you can add an amp later)

The only speakers I can mount on my car are two 4x6 door speakers and one 4x10 sized dash mounting area. That is why I want to get the best out of my limited speaker options.

Another option is building a plate and mounting a 4 inch mid and tweeeter in it, that ALWAYS sounds better than a Oval speaker. Last I knew, sound waves are round in nature, not oval, just something to think about!

The sizes are from original mounting areas so I can mount them in these places. I have a 68 mustang fastback.

So you think round 4" coax are better than 4x6 ovals?

4x6 speakers are hard to find here. I only have two options here that I can buy. Blaupunkt velocity and rockford fosgate punch. Which one should I get? Thanks.

Ever thought of having someone build you some kick pods? With that option you could get a nice 6 1/2 component set and just use the 4x6 with a bass blocker for upper fill. If I remember the Mustang has alot of room down there so kick pods would be a good idea. What does everyone else think?

Um if you want to go with your two choices go with the Fosgates...Blaupunkt isn't very good....at all.

Sound waves aren't round they're waves. Like sine waves. I don't know if a round speaker or an elliptical speaker is better at producing them. Intuition tells me round but with all the research they put into speakers I wouldn't be surpised if an elliptical speaker was just as good.

uh.. I have been doing this for a long time, and I never met a 4x6 speaker that I didn't like

.....to see catch on fire. 4x6's suck, they always have, but a 68 mustang, you wanna keep that looking clean, so you probably wanna stay away from the kick pods, right? There are plenty of 4x6 components out there (a plate, little woofer, and a tweeter), pretty good choice, considering your application. and the 4x10 in the dash, well that was ford's way of saying f**k the stereo, hey listen to the exhaust!

if you want a cost effective solution, get jbl gto 4x6's and 4x10, they're pretty cheap and sound just as good as any other (they all sound like dog ass), or for a slightly better sound from stock holes, go for the component plates..

    JMO..

Go to school and get learned !

sine waves as you mention, are round, on a O - scope, you are only seeing the side of the wave!

sound waves are also round in nature. that is all

I have an engineering degree and spent 2 weeks out of 3 physics semesters on sound and harmonic motion. I'm sorry. And one electrical engineering course. 5 years of that stuff is enough. I do remember the Doppler Effect. That's one of the easiest to remember, especially when an ambulance drives by.
