I haven't been around here in a while, I am looking to make an enclosure to fit in the factory sub location in my 99 mountaineer. All I need is a high powered 8" woofer to sit in the location, so what should I use as my 8" and what should I use to run it. Looking to spend less than $600 for the sub and amp together. Thanks guys!
No, the enclosure I will be making will be completely sealed. So I am looking for an eight inch sub that does well in a small sealed enclosure, maybe handle in the neighborhood of 300-400 watts continuous.
Oz Audio used to make one of the best 8 inchers around, not sure if they still do but you can check them out.
Um....Unless Rockford makes the T1 or T2's on 8's I wouldn't even bother looking at the punch series subs...they just plain suck...terrible reliability
why dont you just get big ones.... http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3507 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14934 that will run you about $400(usd) and get 2 2ft by 1ft bord of fiberglass. 3 1ft^2. cut 2 12" holes with a little slack so the subs slide in the hole. drill holes for the positive and negative wires too....in the appropriate places. but yeah its pretty easy. just calk the space between the boards after you screw them togather _____ -|o|o|- look kinda like that (the "-" is where you drill the holes for the wires and the "o" is the sub holes, the "|" is the 1ft^2 boards , and the __ is the 2ft by 1ft boards.) lol not the best discription and dident even answer but its my openion and well i think im right hahahah. and that would be around $ 50-70 cause 8" subs suck pretty bad. but they need about a qubic 8inche lol enclosures and those prolly wont fit in your door or buy your rear window.
TBusiness...lol i tried to understand that...but are you suggesting that superman make his own custom fit fiberglass enclosure and use MDF as the baffle board...it would be a good idea but he is just looking for a replacement woofer High power 8 inch subs??? Not many...well that I know of...just find one with a high sensitivity rating and decent power handling...
lol yeah i know but 8" are sooo poopy... kickers blow too fast jl is too expensive mtx is pretty poopy when it comes to smaller speakers boss is pretty good. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3917
A sub doesnt neccessarly need 300-400 watts to get loud. If a driver is efficent then it will get loud on lower power. Here are some other drivers to look at. I know from experience that 2 9kv.2s will with some power put you over the 140 mark on a TL sensor.. http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=29 http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli_series/rli_8_inch_DIY_car_and_home_subwoofer_driver_information.html
For the price, there are many companys that simply blow boss, piramid, pyle legacy out of the water. Do a little research, read, read, and read. Just because a driver looks good on paper doesnt mean it will perform well in real world enviorments. Its in the install as well. You can not just take a driver and through it in any ol' box and expect it to get loud and sound good. TS spec dictate how a sub will respond, and usually manufacures will tell you recomended boxes for the subs whether it be IB, ported, or sealed. Large sealed small sealed. Those are determined by the TS specs.
nothing gets hullova loud just damn pricey for alot of peoples budgets... I was naming some other 8" sub alternatives CDT makes some killer sounding 8's as well. I love lil subs that can get stupid loud. Just the look on peoples faces when they ask what you have back there is priceless. Not to mention if you pick a good and have a good soundstage upfront, I perfer the way they blend over other subs.
