I dont have grilles on my subs yet and the other day when we went grocery shopping the sub was banging on my 12 pack. So I decided to turn the box around so the subs face the back of the rear seat so as not to have them get damaged. The bass response has dropped by like 50%. I did not think it would matter which way the subs were facing since the wave lengths of the bass frequencies are very long in length. i turned the box around so they face the rear of the car and the bass returned. Can you guys give me a scientific explanation as to why this would happen?? Would it matter if I switched the amp to 180 degrees out of phase or is that mostly for polarity. Other than that I guess ill just buy some grilles.
It is just a time tested fact that subs normally sound a lot better and louder when rear firing in trunks. I would suggest getting some grills
Quarter wavelengths. eitght wave lenghts, phaseing cancellation, phasing constructive waveforms, etc, etc........... Its called transfer function ............There is another whole write up I need to do one of these days!
i had to face mine sideways for room in my hatch and i too hear the diffrence.can I do somthing or am i stuck too.
only thing i can think of pedro is if you had a side ported box you could point the port to the rear while having the subs sideways to help the sound if you needed to have them sideways.
Pedro you said you have a 10 inch sub right?? Well why not build a Decware Deathbox 10?? http://www.decware.com/newsite/dbk10.htm
250 for just the box?ouch.thats too much for me to spend now.plus all my gear is screwed to it. i'd hate to mess up a new box by screwing **** to it. i got the box i have now from ebay for only 31.00.its a factory kicker box.vented.it still rocks, but i hear the diff. dave the boxes vent fires forward.no way around that.it's bolted to the spare tire mount(drivers side) so it wont be going any where. it's really no big deal anyways cause all i have to do is turn up the bass a cooter hair.i guess i lowered the transfer function a tad by turning it?
Pedro...I sent you a message...its 250 for them to build it for you but you can buy the plans online...or you can read your message lol
oh sorry i did read the message but got side tracked and forgot to respond back. will it work for a solo baric 10?
It will work for any 10 inch sub...I'm gonna go crazy building deathboxes once I have some time after christmas. If you read the review on it the tester said it has far better sound quality and output than a sealed box...and it increases the power handling a lot
Its just a variable tuned single reflex bandpass enclosure........nothing special. What they fail to explain to anyone is the fact that by using this design, It will dramatically change the displacement limited power handling of the woofer you put into it. Some woofers will like it, some wont......That 600 watt sub may only handle 100 watts before it reaches maximim excursion...... This box is not special other than the adjustable baffle, which only changes the vent tuning frequency by changing the volume of the vented side of the box.......This is NOT how i would build a banpass enclosure
Well..I'm over on the decware forums every now and then and everyone there who has a deathbox loves it...I'm just gonna build em and sell em to kids at school and friends
ok i just read the reviews.sounds like an awsome design. the box i have now is way better than the truck box was.also i cant built for shyt.i'm happy with my set up..............maybe for my moms ride. i was planning on getting an 8 for her.hooked up to my hifonics vulcan.180x1 will sound just right.
