It's been quite a while since I've frequented the forums. Sandt38 and I used to fight tooth and nail with eachother back in the day. Anyways I have a 2003 Nissan Maxima 6 speed (mentioning 6 speed because I don't know how I can locate any subs up front with the damn shifter mechanism.) I just purchased a new Soundstream Davinci 7 channel amplifier to power my existing Focal Utopia 165w3 set, my 136w set and my additional set of tweets (yea i like it bright its a preference of mine.) Anyways I am desperately trying to find a Premier DEX-P9/Premier DEQ-P9 to be the heart of the system. I figure I can use the digital processor/EQ to eliminate the need for expensive passives for each channel to be properly xo'd. Currently I have the entire car gutted down to metal floors so I can finish sound deadening the entire vehicle. Do you guys think I should pull the ceiling down and sd that also? Or will my double layers on the floors and my older double layers on the rest of the vehicle be enough?

As far as subwoofers I'd honestly rather not use them...there are spots in the rear deck but I am very happy with the current amount of bass reproduction from the Utopias. But people who "know better" keep telling me to put subs of some kind in or im an idiot. Focal makes a 136mm (think thats 5.5" subwoofer) that I could install to each side of possibly my center console up underneath. This 4 way amplification is new to me so I'm going to need some help. Let me know any suggestions you guys have...

mainly I need help with the following because i've been out of car audio for almost 3 years since I installed the utopias i've been happy and saved my pennies.

-I am going to be re-wiring the car...I saw on CAF the sites like knukonceptz.com for wire...any other suggestions? I have 1/0 wire already ran that will be re-routed seeing that the floors arent down.
-I wanted to sink the amplifier into the spare tire well but I was told I should move it towards the smaller part of my trunk facing the back for not just heat dissipation but cosmetic appeal and the fact that my trunk will still be used.
-Any experiences with the P9/EQ combo before? What should I expect over my current pioneer 800 series cd player? I owned a Premier DEX-P1R before that which I am still impressed with to this day.
-Sandt38 I know you will be the man to contact about a possible need to upgrade the charging system...what Optima battery do you recommend I use? Any good companies that offer an H.O. alternator?
-Do I really need subs? Theres enough sound deadening to line an entire 40x40 theater room :)

sorry about the novel...happy to be back. Did I make the right decision by picking up a leftover new oldschool Soundstream Davinci? Oldschool soundstream has given me great results over the years...and this amplifier IMO should give me the performance plus the cosmetics.

    thanks

sound deading is key in the mobile enviorment, but not the cure all to lack of sub bass in the car, especially at highway speeds. road noise will propogate and mud up the lower registers. A small sub will deliver the needed boost to the lack of funding in the low frequency dept.

Subbass up front is a good thing, but not realistic. it seldom ever aproaches the dynamics of a well built enclosure in the back. II hae done many systems with front end sub bass and loved the attack of the sub kicking my ass into the bext week, but the lowest freqs. just could not be made in that scenario. thats the problem.

I have ALL kinds of ideas for what you want , And i am sure so does several other members, but bottom line, you are going to have to compromise with something sub par to a killer high end home audio system.

I need another beer..............get back tothis later...............

got some bad news today...the amplifier that I purchased from woofersetc is not actually in stock and unavailable because its discontinued. I am now considering audison VRX series...any thoughts? any suggestions? I am also hoping to know when the replacement for the premier p9 deck will be available because I was told by two different reps that pioneer is out with a new model...and I hope someone has a 2007 catalog with new model numbers.

    thanks
