Designed to work in sealed and ported boxes?? I have 2, well now 1 Boston 12.5LF sub. Ive used them in a Q logic sealed box for quite a few years, and they bumped very hard with excellent SQ. Sold one to my friend who had a ported box, well this thing went up in smoke in 1 day. I had these off of a JBL BP1200 amp and a Crossfire CFA 1000d and never broke a sweat for many years, this guy had it for a day off my Hifonics 1206D and it went up in smoke in 1 day. What gives??Is it that they were only designed to work in a sealed box?? Just wondering? If thats the case whas the difference in design from a sub thats designed for a sealed box versus one that can work in both boxes??
perhaps clipped signal??? i had 2 of the cheapest audiopipe on a ported box for about 4 months and they are designed for sealed apps, and they actually pounded hard...unfortunately they passed away due to clipped signal .....oh well i have a better system now so i cant complain lol
Not all subs are designed for both ported and sealed enclosures...which type of enclosure they work best in depends on the parameters. I'm guessing your friend cranked the gain and clipped the signal.
i let a friend borrow a cheap ass 12 from walmart to listen too in his car. when I adjusted the gains and croosover it whaled hard as hell for a pos. then a wek later i ask him if he was going to give it back soon,as his sub came in the mail. he told me he fried it and was scared i was going to pound him. he cranked the gain and bass boost to the max...oh and i didnt pound him... his sister on the other hand got it good.
