alot of speaks get distorted it all depends on how you power them, an amp will in most cases provide much cleaner power and therefor much better sound
That distorted sound you hear from most speakers is the crappy clipped signal being sent from the weak HU amp...don't think that you'll get high CLEAR DEFINED sound from a head unit.
