Actually this one is 100% my fault. Sorry to disappoint  I finally got my Mackie 2600 hooked up. Wired the SP to 8ohms which will give it 1700 watts in bridged mode. After setting the gain I proceeded to audition some music in the enclosure that I had it in for my car. 3.5 cubes tuned to 35hz. Started with some Dream Theater. Train of Thought is one of my favorites so I put it in. Boy do Portnoys drums and Myung's bass get low. I was really impressed with the extension I was getting with this car audio sized enclosure and such a high tune. I didnt think it could get that low without some cabin gain. Very very nice. So with a smile on my face i decide to throw some rap to see how well it kicked. After my usual testing disk, Oukast's Aquemini, i still had a smile on my face. While it doesnt pound me to death like in a car it does have some authority. I also decided to play some Pastor Troy. The dirty south beats again hit rather nice. Not quite what I expected but then again this is my first time hearing a high powered subwoofer in home. So with casual listening done i figured I would put it to the test with some Bass Mechanik. Damn did it pound. Again, not quite like a car but still very loud. So why not try some test tones? Brrrrrrrrrrp. 55. 45. 35(ooops 20?) blap blap blap. All it took was a second and a half of bottoming to destroy the bottom of the coil. It also made a 2inch tear in the spider and pulled part of the spider off the former. This was only the second time I had ever heard it bottom. The first was on a song that was extremely clipped. In car with 1500w. Got it off in time. The one ED driver I actually had great luck with is now done.
Aw.... that's disappointing! I can't tell you of all the times I've heard of competitors accidentally doing the exact same thing... "tuning", using test tones... tweaking for their meter, going through tracks, seeing which one hits loudest... not realizing the next track isn't 60hz, but rather a different 20hz test tone, or something.... BLAM@! Next thing you know, the sub is just stuck, OUT, or something.
Yeah, right after I did it I pulled one of those blank stares while just sitting there. I knew it was done. But I still have my 12" HCs. I was going to use them in car but they would make some decent theater subs.
