i just installed 2 amps in my car. an alpine and mtx and they are hooked up to a distributer with a 4 gauge wire and split into 2 8 gauge wires. now when i turned on my car there was just a whistle sound and then they just shut off...now i used to hear a whistle sound when i just had one amp hooked up but now it doesnt even play music. its hooked up to a red top optima battery. and i dont know whats wrong its all hooked up fine.

    please help,

    how are your amps grounded?

both to the frame in diferent spots. but the one making the whistle noise is my 4 channel amp. going to the door speakers. the other mono amp is grounded to the frame by the seatbelt and that one is fine no noise outta the subs, the other is on the opposite side attached the same way, but there is noise.

yea if i unplugg them completely the noise stops...but it only happens when the car is on...with the rpms as they go higher the sound goes higher

ok if i'm not mistaken it might be a prob with the rcas.

are they running along side of the power wires for the amp?

no they are on the right side under everything and the power wire (4 gauge) is on the opposite side of the car cause its too fat to fit. then it splits on a distributer and then 2 8 gauges are attached to the amps. the only thing that the rcas are running with are the remote wire

also can you move the grounds from one amp to the other and see if the noise stops.

one more....what is the amp screwed to?metal?

the noise stays constent but it goes in and out and the amps are going to be mounted to the side of the box. no metal cause i would think that would be bad for them...

i did and i changed the wire from the old wire to the new one that was in the amp kit i bought...its attached straight to the frame the only old things are the rcas (stinger and streetwires brand) the other rca to the sub is a JL audio

ok.lets see......ok some of the guys here would say to ground your radio where your amp is grounded.

thats the only thing that i can think of now.i'm sure later on some of the others guys here can give you some more suggestions.
