Hey, I just bought an amplifier remote that plugs directly into the rca cable. Does anyone Know what I should place the gain on so there aren't any problems? thanks

It might be. I bought it off e-bay. It works though. does the rca cables have anything to do with the gain.

No...rca cables just transfer the signal...post the model number, specs, and/or picture of this "amplifier remote".

    AH HA!

Its just a passive volume control, thats it. It WILL NOT provide any gain to the signal. Set your amp gains properly and use this device to lower the volume of whatever channel you want whnever you want. it will not hurt your system.....

yup, this is basically an inline resistor that changes an input signal from full, and converts it down in stages to everything below full. These do not add any "power" to the system, just allows you to turn down the amp (by turning down the signal to the amp) without having to turn down the volume of the host signal. They work wonderfully, but be sure that you don't have the gain set at full (before the "remote") incase you do experience a failure from that unit.. it doesn't look like a very sturdy example.
