Stereo company installed Performance Teknique amps in my boat. One is a 600W.2 the other is a 1000W.4. First question is are these amps any good? Second question is when you turn the boat on the speakers last for about 20 minutes. Then half speakers cut out. When you let them sit for 10 minutes they turn back on. Only way to keep all the speakers working is to have the volume turned only half way up. Looked at wiring and it seems pretty cheesy, don't know if this could be the problem or if it is the amp. What could be causing this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
sounds like they are going into thermal protection. Are they installed in an area that has no airflow around the amps???
it would be good if you could give us the exact models of the amps and speakers that you are using. It does sound like your amps are going thermal though. My cheap china amp used to do that cuz it was under the seat and it had absolutely no airflow. I'd push it for a good hour and it would go thermal and shut down. You could either move the amps somewhere else where it can get better airflow or just add some fans to keep them cool.
Those amps are overrated cheap amps that aren't worth the money spent on them. I'd rather spend the same money on a quality 150x2 amp and 100x4 amp.
can you take it back to the shop... for them to check it out? you wouldnt happen to live in whittier, california? I know the shop down the street was doing a job on a boat... and they were using PT gear in it.
