Here ya go lil buddy, starting you a new thread on your amp issue!!!!! Since your amp is not powering up now, the first thing that comes to my mind is, your fuse holder!!! yep, most of the ones i have seen nowadays are COMPLET JUNK, even the pricier ones. Heres what I have seen happen many times even in the past.... Heres an example You mesure voltage at the battery, you see 12.6 volts.... You measure at the battery side of the fuse under the hood, 12.6 volts..... You measure at the amp side of the fuse, 12.6 You measure clear back at the amp, and everything else, 12.6 volts. Remote shows good, grounds are done AWESOME, but the amp wont power up, as if the fuse is blown or the power wire is getting no power, but you know it is cause you checked it all out!!!! Well well well, now what???? crack open a beer and listen up A neat thing called electrical resistance is our enemy sometimes, and with the cheap gol plated garbage out there in the market, it just makes thing worse. Now try this.......Jump across the fuse with a piece of wire, 18 or 16 gauge will do fine, see if your amp turns on....does it????? If no, then this is wrong for you too even read and just ignore it, unless you want to learn something. If it does turn on, then what gives??? well, the cheap garbage fuse holders/fuses have such a resistance that the voltage reads normal, but they WILL NOT pass the current needed to even turn on an amp!!!! So listen up, Dont pay the high prices for gold/platinum/space alien exotoic coated power supply components!!!!!! Get yourself industrial rated components such as...... http://www.bluesea.com/product.asp?Product_Id=23471&d_Id=&l1=&l2= http://www.vteworld.com/content/electromech/fuse/html/anl/anlfuse.php (not the gold) Anyway, another point I would like to make here, Gold...its about as conductive for high currents as my dogs ass with hemeroids. Its only good for corrosion (barely with the crap they use) and makes it look "pretty" Well, i for one am a man, The only thing that I want to look pretty is my ol lady, I want my electrical system to look like an electrical sytem, not like some gussied up french whore. Which brings me to another thing, the connectors, All that gold plated custom screw terminal lugs you got under your hood? take em off and throw them at the neighbors dogs whenever they wake you up at night, cause they are more effective at puttiing knot on a dogs head than passing reall current to your thirsty amps. Go to an indusrial electrical supply or welding sipply, and get some crimp on/ solder COPPER lugs to fit yer wire. Dammit son, that IS the way it SHOULD be sone......And your amps will thank you...........Oh, and for distro blocks, I always made mine on the high current custom installs, a chunk of copper and a mill, or drill press, some taps for REAL bolts and some carefully made compression flats to smash the wire down over a broad area as opposed to a little tiny set screw only squishing a few wires to make contact......... Now get out there all you pansy boys and put some REAL electrical systems in your cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok thank you. i just got home and am going outside to quaduple check all my conections.if im right, my ground maybe suspepct.when i get some more cash put together i wouldnt mind doing a power wire upgrade. since i now know how to gut the truck. i can do it in half the time as before.i even figured out how to remove the side storage pockets next to the rear seats so its that much easyer to run the cables. ok here goes nothing.wish me luck. thanks for the thread VIKING.
ok i figured it out.i think my head unit is the culprit. when i bypassed it and went thru my XM roady it worked fine.quiet as a church. oh and the powering up problem.that was a loose connection going to the amps from the cap.i had one of those big ass crimp rings on it and the wire came loose.so the cap was power ing up but,it wasnt going anywhere. so now i have my XM's output going into my eq's aux input.the only problem with that is.i only use that eq as the sub vol control.the eq side makes a wicked turn off pop,but not on the sub out side.??. so now i may need a new head.......unless you guys know somthing about how to fix it.on the cheap. i was planning on getting a new one soon, but not this soon.LOL. oh well unless i hear from someone i'm going to best buy in the morning.(i have thier credit card).
ok viking i read what you told mustang about the ground thing i unplugged my ant. no help.but tommorow i will take the dash apart agian and check.
just wrap a wire around d RCAs ground an then touch it 2 d chassis of d radio and see what happens. make sure all d grounds(radio EQ etc...) go 2 1 spot(amp ground) don't use d fact ground. when I install a sistem d only wire I used is ignition wire d rest come from d amp. ds my help.
ok if i read that right.i'm wraping a wire around the rca's and the ground then touching it to the HU. or is it my RCA'S ground?
ok idid all that i could in the truck and the noise was still there. so i removed the radio and hooked it up to one of those jumpstart batterys i have and also a spare amp. so with just the speaker output it was quiet. with the amp it was noisey.at zereo vol you could hear a buzzing thru the speaker. on radio only.nothing.very quiet. so i guess its off to bestbuy.i may have bought the extended warrenty.i'm not sure.
He means grounding your rcas. Also Rodny whats up with you typing "d" instead of "the" Makes you sound like your trying to be a gansta lol
Its just a noise problem now right??? If so, try a rca ground loop isolator...they can sometimes stop the noise....And did you try grounding the headunit to the same point as your highs amp? (and not using the factory ground)
i tried all that.i even tested it out of the truck.the rca output's were making noise. the speaker outs were quiet. but thats a moot point now.i replaced the head with a new one.pioneer 7800.holy shiit its cool. it has a xover front and rear.independant of each other. color display.its nice. duel aux inputs. 16 band eq. bbe. oh and selectable xover slopes.6/12 on the hi's,and 6/12/18db on the sub out. its all installed and sounds better than before
Next time I will tell you befo I post somethin dat way so you can check da spelling fo me.    . I'm a gansta:2guns: :gunsmilie: :rifle:
all righty guys im half wat done.i wired up my vulcan amp for the rear 6x9's.not done yet.i need some coplers for the rca's.i made the mistake of buying a 4ch set of rca's and i didnt notice they are the same leghth. i should have bought two seprate sets.so far so good no noises.and ive been moving that rear seat alot. i'm still not sure how that ****ked the head up.mabye i pinched the rca's and it sent back a signal to the head. like a voltage spike?who knows.i'll just put the old one in my moms car.i reaaly need to update her set up.no amp in it so it'll work just fine. oh snap! i forgot i have an old jbl 4ch amp that takes speaker inputs.its tiny.like 18x4.on aset of seprates.her car needs it.i hate driveing it with ****ty sound. ok then..i got some tv to watch.cants miss my stories. LOL.
Ahh Rodny I see...its cool man don't worry...I was just wondering lol Just glad to have your help and knowledge around here
ok guys after all that mess with the head and power problems.(loose cap connection)its gone now.VIKING. i had my first real test on how my install will hold up to some real abuse. while driveing home i was run off the road by someone. no damage to me or my truck, but holy hell i got some air! i was sent off the road by some road construction, hit a dip at 45mph and BOOM.LIKE THE DUKE BOYS.YEE HAA!! a witness said i flew like 15 or 20 ft. so after all that the stereo never skipped a beat. go figure....i checked the truck over and i cant find anything wrong. lucky huh. the guy kept going and no one got his tag.
Well, Good DEAL!!!!!!! Glad you got her workin like it should!! Glad you you didnt get hurt either....Them duke boys i am sure would have been proud!!!
thanks.allthough scary.it was kinda fun. i used to do shiit like that in my 87 s15 all the time in the woods when i went camping, but on purpose.and not as hard as today. maybe thats why it needs a whole new front suspention.LOL.
you need an ol dodge powerwagon, mines been airborn several times. never has it complained. although the seat springs were broken due to it!!
