Amp not getting power

at least thats what I think it is... I hooked up my stereo and installed an amp, a cap and 2 12"ers, but its not hitting at all, not even a lil bit... the amp has no lights coming on but then I'm not sure that the amp even has any lights in it, the cap has a volt meter and thats flashing triple zeros, and there are two blue LEDs on the cap...

I've never hooked a cap up and don't know if I did it right, as I didn't have any intructions at all, I ran the red power wire to the cap and screwed it down on one side then took another length of red power cable and ran it from the other lead to the amp, not certain that is how its done, but a friend told me that it is... could this be the problem... I DID notice a positive and negative symbols on the cap by the leads, but I didn't think that the cap needed to be grounded too... or does that just tell you which side to attach what to, and if this is the case which way is right... by that I mean does the power line get the + or the -, I have never really hooked up a stereo before but I had a friend (same guy who told me that the cap doesn't need to be grounded and that it didn't matter which way you hook it up, and he did an ok job on the front speakers and the head unit, so I am at a loss here... any and all help would be greatly appreciated... thanx in advance

K took the cap out of the equation, and its getting power now, so it had to be the cap.... anyone know how to properly hook up a cap... if you can tell me I'd be extremely grateful, thanx in advance...

you dont need the cap.it really doesnt help

also your friend told you wrong!if you want to install it you will have to charge it.if you dont know how.or dont have the bulb thingy then dont bother with it.

another thing.the cap does need to be grounded.- is the ground and + is the positive, but again i cant stress enough.if you dont know how to do it.then dont mess with it cause it does have enough juice in it to zapp your ass.go to a car audio shop and ask how to do it.or let them do it for you.

thats only if you really want it in your system.

No you didn't. The positive (+) gets hooked to the battery wire and to the amp positive (+). The Neg (-) on the cap gets hooked to ground. A capacitor blocks DC voltage so hooking it up the way you had it hooked up don't work (but you already figured that out)

Also caps with electronic read outs on them do not need to be precharged prior to hooking them up. However I would error on the side of caution and pre charge it anyway. If you dont know how to do it post back.
