I just got my amp in (kicker zx700.5) and its too big to mount to the back of my sub box (kicker ts10c). The box is 18 inches across and the amp is actually 20 (the specs on the site I ordered it from said 16 3/4). Would it be ok to screw a thin piece (1/2") of plywood to the box and then the amp to the plywood? I also have a buddy that might want the amp , so I was thinking of selling it to him and buying a smaller sized 5 channel that will fit on the sub box. I have a blazer and am trying to save the cargo space.

shouldnt be a problem. might think about putting something like weather striping or closed cell foam strips between the wood and box to be sure it does not buzz and rattle

good advice there. adding rubber grommets in bewteen the mounting tabs to absorb vibrations should work too.

It seems that a sheet of MDF would rattle less than plywood.

But that MDF is still mounted solid to the box.
It would be no different then mounting the amp directly to the box.
Adding another sheet of hard ass wood is going to dampen anything.
