I have a 2000 Yukon and am installing a Kenwood 640W 4 channel amp. The only feasible place for this is under the rear seats however the rear seats fold down. The amp will fit if I secure the amp to the floor without an installation board. With the installation board, the seat will not fold down fully. In my inexperience may I ask, will the heat from the amp harm the rug or cause a fire at all if I secure it right to the floor atop the carpet??
Other than a catastophic failure of the amp, no, it will not torch the carpeting. In all my years of car audio installs, i can remember only one case of "carpet burn" it was due to an unfused power wire that allowed the amp to "melt down" whan it failed. So no, dont wory about it, just do a proper install with the fuses in the right places and it will not be an issue....
Thank you.... What a pain in the butt trying to fit an amp in this truck.. This will make it a bit easier but I still am going to have to keep the stereo off on those rare occasions that I have to have the seat down for loading. The upper portion of the seat lies atop the amp (leather). Tx Just learning and much appreciated.
what about inside the panels under the rear (side) windows? - where the jack usually is? You'd have to install cooling fans for lack of airflow, but there may be enough room in there..
