I'm looking for an amp in the $400 price range to power my two Kicker CVX 12'' 4ohm subs, I was thinking of going with this "Alpine - 1000W Class D Mono MOSFET Amplifier with Adjustable Crossover".

To be honest, I'm kinda scared of "no name" brands (then again, I have no experience with car audio). I've had a few suggestions including an "Audioque 1200d".

I was also suggested this Power Acoustik A2400DB mono amp:

The local stereo shops sell Kicker amps that seem to be out of my budget at around $500-600 but this is probably what I need. I'm not looking to be the best in show but just to beat down, I was quite content with my old CVR's and Kicker 450 watt 2 channel. I'm now realizing I probably should've gone with 2 ohm subs with my budget but my plan is to buy the best I can at around this $400 price range and then pay to have my system installed at one of the local shops or at Best Buy.

Please help! I haven't had a system in almost a year and I miss it very much. The 450 watt amp is now fried because of my stupidity and the fact that it can't handle my subs in the first place doesn't help.

If you suggest a brand I haven't heard of, please explain to me why it's ok so I feel safe dropping the almost half a G on it...I'm a little worried I'll spend my money and regret it.

    Thank you all very much!

Edit: It'll be safe to add that I don't know the difference between ohms or if there is a difference between dual 4 ohm and 4 ohm, I don't know which of the two I have but I know that they are 4 ohm.

to know if your subs have dual coils it easy. it will literally have 2 positive terminals and 2 negative ones.

your links didnt work. how much power do you really want/need?

Of the 2 that you were looking at id take the Alpine anyday. I personaly like Hifonics and Crossfire simply cause I own them and I know they put out a lot of power and are very reliable amps. You can also look at Memphis, elemental designs, mmats, Precision power, Soundstream, us amps, sundown and the list goes on and on.

Unless it's duel coil, it can't be wired for 1 ohm. or at least I don't think so.

stores will charge 100$ over most prices you can find online form what I've seen. and they always sell out of date models.

you can wire it for 2 ohm's and use this amp. or wire it for 4 ohm's, you'll only loose a few watts, it depends what your sub's are rated at.

your lucky. most stores charge way more. 50 more than the internet is not bad at all.

i looked at a local shop here at a power acoustik amp that i know sells for 300ish on line and they wanted almost 500.

man thats rough. yea when i was living in colorado the local dealer was way big into kicker but had memphis stuff and sold alot of cheap stuff like duals and emerson subs. they wanted like 400 bucks for 2 emerson 12''s and a 400 watt amp. emerson is junk in my opinion. the local dealer for me here in kansas deals mainly in memphis and really dont sell no "junk" in my opinion. they sell eclipse, alpine, memphis, and powerbass i beleive thats all they deal in.

eh ive had emerson home audio stuff and was really disapointed. as for duals they got them at wallmart for 30bucks. i guess they just aint my type of stuff, but hey if it gets the job done then it will work. opinions vary from person to person.
