Okay, i have an infinity 1211a mono amp hooked up to 3 12" Infinity dvq Kappa Perfect's @ 2.67 ohms on this amp. Everythings been GREAT The past 2 years with it and it certainly made me happy, other then a few minor things. Just the other day i was blasting my music when i suddenly heard a strange noise from my subs(almost like a buzz). I thought it was maybe the cd so i just turned the volume down and the subs where still producing sound fine. When i got home i noticed the amp was randomly clipping with no volume and even with no RCA signal from the HU. I took the amp inside to my bench and im giving it power and it goes rite into solid protect and spams Clip.Voltage is good, connections are good, my subs are fine. I dont know to much about how amps work so any tips would be helpful. Thanks ahead of time! p.s, Changed out the fuses on the amp just to give it a shot and NOT AFRAID TO SOLDER ! =D
My guess would be the output transistors. You'll have to remove them to test them correctly. Could definitely be something else, though.
I got a "quote" today to fix this amp since i dont think i can really do it safely my self. It seems it would cost 250+ to fix it when im sure if i knew what i was doing id spend 100 max, but who knows? . I just decided to purchase (2) Infinity Kappa One 's since i got such a long life out of my previous infinity amp. So I suppose, case closed =\.
I'm assuming those are dual 4-Ohm woofers. In order to get 2.67 Ohms, you would have to wire them independently in series, then back to parallel. You know this will result in one woofer receiving considerably less power than the other two?
