Step 1 Turn the signal source volume control all the way down. Set any tone controls to their flat or defeated positions. This includes the loudness control.

Step 2 Turn the level controls of the amplifier to their minimum positions.

Step 3 Choose music with high dynamic content that you like, with which you are familiar, and will be used most often in the system.

Step 4 Turn the source unit's volume control up to its highest undistorted output level. If you lack test equipment, this point occurs between 3/4 to full volume depending on the quality of your source unit. Listen for any audible distortion.
If any distortion is audible, reduce the volume of the source unit until you have an undistorted output. Leave the volume control at this position during your system tuning.

Step 5 While listening to your chosen dynamic music, turn up the level control corresponding to the midrange output until you hear slight distortion and turn the level control back slightly for an undistorted output. Depending on your system, the midrange and tweeter output may be on the same output channels.

Step 6 Turn up the level control corresponding to the tweeter output until you hear slight distortion and turn back the level control slightly for an undistorted output. Depending on your system the midrange and tweeter output may be on the same output channels.

Step 7 Fine-tune the output level between midrange and tweeters.

Step 8 Repeat Steps 5-7 for the rear speakers. If you do not have rear speakers continue to Step 10.

Step 9 Set levels between the front and rear midrange and tweeters for optimum front/rear balance.

Step 10 Turn up the level control corresponding to the woofer output until you hear slight distortion and turn back the level control slightly for an undistorted output.

Step 11 Fine-tune the output level between satellite speakers and the woofers. If using an RGC-1, adjust the level to the output of the woofer to match the sonic requirements of the system.

Step 12 Enjoy your awesome Orion sound system.

When setting the gain for the subwoofer amp have the head unit sub level control ALL THE WAY UP

hey, ok i will do that, this info doesn't seem right to me. Shouldn't i set the gain for the subs with my eq set the way i like it also, not flat.

Thats a new one! Sorry Azn, gotta disagree with ya on that one. The sub amp is set up pretty much just like the rest of the system.

Interesting point. If, there is a particular "curve" that you like, and have always liked in your sound system, then by all means so it as you have asked. But with the introduction of a new amp into the system, things in the SQ dept may differ just because of that, might just try bypassing the EQ first and see how it sounds!

Well Viking see it this way.

Say the head unit has a sub control range of -10 to +10. And you turn the volume up to the maximun level before the deck clips, then you set the gain on the amp to put out maximum power before clipping. So now you have a clean signal going to the amp and a clean output signal from the amp.

Then the owner wants more bass and goes to turn the sub level up. What happens now?? The deck clips the output signal and the amp is no longer pushing clean power but a dirty clipped signal also...this is how I see it.

lol, that's what i was thinking about the eq being on when setting the gain and not flat like the manual says.
I got my Amp, wooooooooooo, this thing is a beauty, looks brand new, not a scratch on it. Thanks Viking, it wouldn't have been possible without you! lol. I'm going to make a board for it and install it nice, not going to rush this time.

I'm going to paste in what this chick is saying, i guess it's her husband now lol, to me in the emails that sold me the amp, she said she bought it for her husband and he wants the hcca series now instead. Check this out.

No it`s never been used. Brand new!!!! That amp was bought new in 2000!!! never used!!!

Yep that was the last series before the CHINA SELL OUT!!! They teamed up with A/D/S to build that amp. Hook that bitch up and LOOK OUT!! Hope you plan on using a Cap!! If not man that thing is going to KILL your alt!!

Does this sound right for this amp Viking?

    Ignore the cap part lol.
