I need some input from you guys that stay current on this stuff. I'm working on 2-s15L7's power=sx 1250 and 2 w612's power= another sx 1250 I have alternator, stinger battery's good wire yada, yada.My plan is 6 cu.ft with rectangular ports tuned @ 35 hz on kickers and 1.25 cu.ft sealed on JL12's hoping for performance in the 30 hz to 70 hz. range from 12's and 20 hz to 50hz. from the 15's. the last major system I worked was the Orion van in 1986, so any input from someone more current than me would help. I left it at a shop with 1900.00 dollars and everything but the box built and installed. 15 days later I took the truck and 1400 dollars back the square non covered not secured and now broken box needs replaced. Someone near Seattle that is real good would be fine or I'm left with building it myself. Any help would be appriciated.
WTF!!!!!!!! say that in ENGLISH PLEASE!!!!!! If I read it right you want to run 2 different sizes of woofers, in seperatly tuned enclosures, within the same bandwidth? If that is what you are saying, that is a BAD idea. phasing issues will be your new basterd child!!!!! I have done 2 demo vehicles for Orion, back in the early to mid 90's. BTW........who was your rep????
originally this system was the 2 15"l7 and 2 sx 1250's strapped the sx amps are stable 1 ohm by themselves or 2 ohms when strapped, with 2 dual 4 ohm neither of these situations was attainable. That is why I added 2 more subs thinking by having the different sizes on different amps and setting them at different Hz. I could use the 12's as a midbass with emphacise on bass, I think I made a mistake. If I get more w6-12's dual 4 ohm can I get to a 2 ohm load in a 5 or 6 sub bessel configuration, and what are opinions on Bessel config.
Well sir , I don't know exactly what you mean by "bessel config" . I would say stick with either pair of subs . You can run into a lot of problems with cancellation and such running two different size subs . Why not run each L7 on an sx at 2ohm ?
I am going to same size subs I'm researching for configurations so resistence are not too low Bessel is a five or six sub (or multiples there of) and it uses parralell and series wiring it's a little confusing to me because all the subs are in a chain but not all series or parrelel add in the dual voice coils and the expense of equipment I figured it would be a good time for outside input Check out Bessel configuration if It will work with the equipment I have then I'll change to 5 or 6 12's, if not or if it isn't a good configuration then it's 4 15's the thing is six 12's leaves much more usable storage in my vehicle.
I had them each on there own amp and it was ok SX amps are 1 ohm stable so by using the subs I have I can go to 1 ohm load 1 amp both subs. So I have an extra amp. Originally we strapped the amps with subs at 1 ohm.SX amps are 1 ohm alone or 2 ohm strapped, so we cheated which is bad practice but in higher end equipment it is gotten away with sometimes. This was not the case a sub went down and that took down both amps, it happened in the install bay at nice shop in Tulsa. I'm a little greedy stereo wise I've spent a fair amount of change for a fair amount off power and I'm trying to use it all. I figure 2500 rms there must be a way to put subs with it and it be loud enough to make most people get out but I've been wrong before and thats why I'm here.
2rgbn...The install and enclosure matter more than the number of subs. Two 12's can outdo 4-6 12's if put in the right box, same with 15's...But go for the 4-6 subs if you want...would look cool. But you could get embarassed with someone with a pair of 10's or 12's.
The two 15's hit pretty hard in a large ported box going to 4 was the original plan. I haven't seen the new Solo Barics perform (in terms of loudness) in a sealed enclosure near as well as large ported. Would everybody agree if i get 2 more 12W6v2-D4 put 2on each amp in well made factory suggested sealed enclosure that breaks down to 625 watts per sub in an 04 expedition that should get 150db or so. Is that a reasonable estimate. You guys are helping however I stumbled across this Bessel configuration and don't want to discard it yet. If I can figure out how I'll post some info.
that is the debate I want more than the fifteens were doing-if I add 2 more 15's my power and cone area double but I lose space the bottom line is I'm trying to make it make people get out at least the ones that need it. I met a shop owner a few years ago that was that loud and crystal clear with 2 13W7's and plenty power. In the setup I had resistence made it such that 2nd amp was a waste I have 2 1250 Watt amps making 625 each that is what I'm fixing. I'm leaning toward JL12's four in standard configuration, or 5 to six in Bessel I haven't got enough info to decide. You guys tell me what you think
