Ok.....Have not posted for a long long time.....Sold house, moved, yadda yadda yadda.....

If anyone remembers...I had put a small system in my son's car...(94 sunbird..JVC HU, MB Quarts in dash, Kenwood 6x9 in rear deck)

I acquired an amp (rockwood) and just recently made a trade for a couple subs....MTX subs...8"...Each one in a small ported box.....

Let me tell you.....I love these little subs and this amp was used temporarily in my truck with no problems at all.....My son is 18 and not a bass head (neither am I)....These subs filled out the lows nicely and can play quite deep and quite loud (no SPL records in danger)....

Just last saturday, I started tearing into my truck to FINALLY install all the stuff....(blaupunkt 4 ch amp, double bridged to run separates in frt. doors (infinity ref. 6.5 & tweets)....Rear speakers (4x6 infinity ref. running off HU) and my 10" JL audio sub in a "Q" custonm running of a Kenwood class D mono amp.....

NOW......I just bought a new, used car....96 delta 88, clean, low miles....I stuck my Eclipse HU in it....I would like to run an amp and a couple of 8" subs just to fill in the low end.....Any recommendations?? I think I am gonna build one or two boxes and use ported design...Space should not be an issue as the trunk is good sized....I want SQ first and foremost.....Nice tight bass guitar and kick drum (new and old rock, some country, etc)

    Thanks

    Willy

Good price, nice warrenty, and appears to be a quality design.....make a good box for it and I am sure it will perform great!

OK....If I bought two of these subs that aznboi is saying and I wanted to put them in a vented box for the best SQ......could someone post some type of plans for it??

We are lookin at about 39" width available and about 15" height

    thx...

those subs are designed to work well and sound good in small sealed and vented boxes...for best SQ I'd go with a ported box at 1.5 cu ft tuned to 35hz

    you have plenty of space.

Is that 1.5 cu. ft. per driver or total? Should I make one chamber for both drivers, or separate and vent two chambers within the box??

Do you think the drivers face out and the vents come out same direction??

Will it matter if I face box forward or rearward??

In the past I have used sealed enclosures and faced the drivers towards the rear....

Can someone post a CAD drawing of the box/chambers??

Figuring the 1.5 is cake, but placement and size of the vents is a mystery to me....I will probably used slotted vents versus round ports, unless someone thinks differently??

    thanks....

1.5 cu ft TOTAL. separate chambers will not be necessary

face the sub and port in the same direction...i would face them to the rear

i'm not really good with CAD drawings yet....still trying to get good at using Google Sketchup

    Top down view with dimensions:

And a front view with distances from the edges of the front board to the holes:

That one got a little fuzzy in the center...should say 7.25" diameter on the circles.

Also, the left one is 5 1/16" in from the side, the right one is 5 13/16" in from the right.

Let me know if you need anything else.

    OK.....another question.....

I was thinking of getting two of these and getting the DVC (4 ohm)....then parallel those making 2 ohm load....Getting a stereo amp and just running these in stereo....Get a good amp rated around 150-200 watts rms into stereo 2 ohm load....

    Whadda you think???

    My bad, 10.5" is correct.

Honestly, wire them to a mono 4 ohm load. Series parallel a pair of D4's to 4 ohms and bridge the amp. Stereo + common chamber = if one channel has bass and the other doesn't it's bad.

If they're getting the same signal, all is well in the world.

willy i read a good artical on the ZED AUDIO gladius amp in the new car audio mag

it puts out 183 watts x2 into 2 ohms stereo.all day long!!and just barely gets hot.its rated at 75x2 and actually puts out 100x2.
