I am going to buy a Soundstream 4 channel amp to go with my Infinity Kappas. Before I buy I want to make sure that the 270 watt 60.7CS 6.5" 2-WAY COMPONENT Kappas (90 watts RMS ) will handle an 85 or 90 watt RMS 4 channel amp. Someone told me to make sure my amp is not more powerful than the speaker rating, but I am not sure if that means rms to rms or something else. Also, because the Kappas are 2 ohm, it means my amp rms will actually be 180. Does this mean it is too powerful for the speakers? Along those lines, if I bought a 60 watt rms per channel does it automatically put out 120 watts on these speakers or can you control it other than by the volume controls. I guess my real question is will I be happy with the 60 watt model or should I go to the 90. I have heard it takes about 50 watts before a sub will perform properly and I wonder if the 60 watts is too little for a sub? OJ:huh:
Um...I would go with the bigger one...just don't crank up your gain...simple as that. If the power is clean and unclipped the speakers can handle more...if yuo use a high pass filter it will increase power handling also. Go for the bigger amp...more flexibilty and dynamic range as Viking always says
A sub will only do what you you put into it......Whether it i 10 watts or 10,ooo wtts... Heck , the Klipsch corner loaded Klipsch hons CRANK ont the the tunes rather loudly on a walkman's output......about 1 watt....... the SS will do a fine job and you wont be disappointed
