I am looking for a good pair of 5.25 speakers. That may or may not be what you would recommend, but for right now, that is what I want. I was wondering what kinds would be good. I do not care about the power, but the price.... I do not want it to be expensive, not more than about $100 OR LESS a pair, preferably less. I want them to sound good, and be able to keep up with my subs (two 12" solobaric L7's, 1200 watt MA audio amp to each). Right now I only have stock speakers, and the subs OVERPOWER them. I just want the 5.25's for now, I do not have the time nor the money to build anything else for the car right now.

Polk Audio DB 5.25" coax... 90 bucks from sounddomain.com... that's what i'd go with for the price range, should sound good, but w/o an amp for them any speaker is gonna have a hard time keeping up with the L7's....

Well, you'll have a hell of a time finding any 5¼ that will keep up with a pair of 12L7's, let alone some that go for under $100. Alpine Type R comps (~$100), those 4½ mids from Creative Sound should have pretty darn good ouptut (~$100 for a pair)...and that's about the only ~5¼'s I can think of that might give enough output for under a $100. I know Seth and Geo have raved about some Cadence 6.5" coaxes that had great output and were cheap. Ya' might want to ask one of them if they have a 5¼ model available. Oh, and JL's XR line of coaxes might go for close to $100-$125 if you look hard enough. Otherwise, ya' might just have to save up a few more bucks.

Of course, the easiest way to prevent the subs from overpowering the front stage is to turn the sub (gain) down. Grab one of the aforementioned 5¼ sets and match levels accordingly. Or just accept that two L7's will overpower almost any set of components if sub level is at full tilt.

Well, I guess that I didn't say that right, I understand they will not be able to keep up totally, I just meant the speakers that would get the closest. I am planning on getting an amp for them, but the amp I am not worrying about, I can get a great deal on a JL amp.
