3-10s or 2-12s?

I recently ordered and received most of the new system for my '67 Chevy pickup. I ordered from an online source three JL 10w3 [4ohm model] but I received three 12w3v3s. I have not contacted the seller yet, I am still deciding whether to send back one 12 or all three 12s and get the 10s. I really would like to make two 12s work, but I just can't make the box design work with the seat all the way back. The cabs in these old trucks are pretty small, most people, even short ones like me run the seat all the way back. I use AutoCad at work and have drawn the box design in cad, trying many configurations. The cad model is accurate to my space constraints, and unfortunately I just can't seem to accommodate the 6.65" depth of the 12w3.

So, logic tells me to send back the 12s and get three 10s. I am concerned though that three 10s, the [10w3v2 model] will not be enough SP. I listen to rap 80% of the time, and think I want pounding bass, but after a week of that I will probably just want quality over decibels  who knows, lol. I bought a Kicker KX1000.1 to push the subs, and planned to wire the 3 - 10s to be 2.67 ohms as referenced at JL website. That amp is rated at 1000 at 2ohms, so at 2.67 I can figure what 850 total or 280ish to each sub? I like the wiring of 2 -12s better, because I can reach 2 ohm and get 500w to each 12w3, but again those 12s won't fit without cutting the back of cab, which I have considered.

So with all that said, are three JL 10w3v2s getting 280 or so watts each going to pound hard in a sealed custom box in my standard cab pickup? Fwiw, I have put 2nd Skin Damper mat on the floor, firewall, back of cab and inside the doors. HU is a Kenwood X689.

I think you will be fine with the 3 10's. Should sound nice.

If you really wanted 3 or even 2 12" subs and you can't get the JL's to fit .. maybe look into other brands that require less space and/or not as deep.. depending on where you are having trouble with the fitment. If this is the case and you want to look at other brands let me know what's your max cubic feet and depth you have to work with for the box and I will see what I can find.. also a price range.

If you really want JL then I would stick with the 3 10's and call it a day.

Dave, thanks for the reply. Yea I love the idea of the 12w3s, but from a practicality standpoint the 3 -10s should keep me plenty happy.

I would go with the 3 tens also..., and if you cant get the seat far enough back...might think about 4 eight inchers...that would also rock your world, and get the seat back all the way...i know cause i have done a few ol chevies like that.......(fuel tank was relocated)

if he is trying to go with a factory resto (or something close), a big hole cut in the cab and bed will drop the trucks value real fast. if hes just restoring it for kicks, then it would be something to consider!!

Thanks for all the responses, much appreciated

I have thought long and hard about cutting the cab/bed and creating all the room I need. The resto is not really about having anything authentic, I have changed the suspension, shaved the body etc. I do like the idea of having all the bass I could possibly want, but then again I am old enough that I don't really want to advertise that I have stereo components in my truck that would be worth stealing...

I thought about just porting the box into the cab too. I didn't know if that would produce a good SQ or not.

A single reflex bandpass, or a dual reflex bandpass would make for a fine SQ enclosure. Vented into the bed with just the ports makes for minimal cutting and modification to the cab/bed
