I'm wanting to replace the rear 6x9's in my son's car. I looked at it briefly this evening and can't figure out how to remove the rear speakers. I did notice a couple of bolts (with nuts on them) that come through the deck into the trunk. Will removing these bolts release the speaker covers? Or, do I have to get more involved?
Also, will I likely need to replace the wires or can I just hook them into the new speakers?
I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something to get sound out of this thing. Thanks, Greg

What car is this?? Most cars you can fold down the rear seats and remove the rear deck panel...after this its just a matter of removing the screws that hold the speakers in and disconnecting the wires.

After you buy new speakers they should come with connecters that makes connecting them a breaze.

    dodge avenger

The car is a 1998 dodge avenger. The back seats do fold down. Should the rear deck just slide forward, pop up and then forward or what? I don't mind doing the work but don't want to screw it up either. Thanks again, Greg

Carfully pull the deck up and then off...it should be held down with plastic tabs...not much you can screw up...just don't rip sh*t up and you'll be good.

Just work with it and dont force sh*t

In some cases the C-pillar trim panels also need to be removed. They should just snap off. The rear deck panel will pull straight up to release the clips then pull forward. If I remember right the third brake light needs to come off first.

Take your time, its not as difficult as it appears.

Great! I'lll try to break into it tomorrow and see how everything goes. I think it will be a fairly quick project once I get it going. Thanks, Greg

    I'm getting there

I had a few minutes tonight but not enough to get it all done. I had to remove the speaker covers by removing the nuts from the bolts that go through into the trunk. Not too difficult once I laid down in the trunk. From what it looks like, I can pry off the rear deck which seems to be held on by some red plastic connectors. I'll keep you all posted and see how it all goes. If you've got any further advice for now, let me know. I'll check back this evening. Thanks for the help. Greg
