What considerations should I be giving to fitting a sub in the sealed boot (trunk) area of my Audi A4 saloon?

Pretty much all the instals I have done before were fitted in hatchback cars where I knew the sound would easily emanate into the cabin or in Mercedes 190's where I had the sub firing through the large aperture in the rear deck so I always knew they would have plenty of impact in the cabin. A sealed 10" was always the right amount of bass for me.

The Audi has a sealed boot - do I need to go bigger therefore?

One option I could consider is removing the 6" rear deck speakers altogether and leaving the holes in the shelf with the speaker grills in place so any sound can come through them, maybe even make a box and port the enclosure through these holes?

    Opinion/advice please?

I like the idea of removing the rear speakers. Can we keep just one of the rear speakers for some rear fill? Yes, a port through the other hole would probably work well.
