I've never had much to do with car audio but I decided that I was going to replace the speakers in this truck because they sound like crap and actually have the cone seperating at the rubber surround. I'll start from the beginning so you get the whole story so I'm sorry if it's a bit long. I looked up the max mounting depth on a few sites and found that it was 3-1/4 inch. I figured I had lots of room to play with so I went out and bought some speakers that were supposed to fit. http://www.amazon.com/Fusion-Reactor-RE-CM650-6-5-Inch-Component/dp/B001W6PYHK. I bought these speakers for 59.80 from a place that had a big off site sale with company reps there. The rep looked it up himself and said it would fit. Well tonight I get the door apart and find out that the actual mounting depth is just over 2-1/4 inch. My questions are: #1Why do all the websites have the wrong depth. #2 Can you think of any way I can get them in without screwing things up too bad. I would like to add a small amp in the near future as well as a better deck. I don't want crazy loud noise. I'm just sick of the terrible quality from the factory speakers. Thank you to every one who reads, and responds to this thread
I've never heard any fusion speakers, but based on Amazon's price for them, it looks like you got a nice deal there. As for mounting, I don't know why the sites would list the wrong info, but I would guess all the resellers get their info from the manufacturer. So its prolly Fusion's fault. I think you can still make em fit if you use a spacer. You could build your own out of 1" MDF or buy a kit like this for a few bucks. http://www.ivgstores.com/IVG2/Y/ProductID-196419-.htm I'd buy an amp sooner than later since those speakers will need more clean juice to stay healthy.
klinkster has the right idea. The only concern i have and you would need to be aware of is the fact that the spks will be off the mounting surface an extra inch, so you would need to be aware of this for clearance in front of them. You dont want the panel bulging out too far or the surrounds of the speaker to impact anything. One additional note...I have installed Fusion equipment. I like it. Did a car using all fusion about 6 years ago...placed 3rd in the Iasca finals in its class... I really liked there highs myself...personal preferance though
