This is my system done completely by myself and hella difficult. Due to the factory bose system being completely non compatable with aftermarket everything needed to be replaced and everything rewired. Result? a much cleaner and better sounding system than the bose ever was not to mention a front mounted single disc player and ipod capable.

    Alpine CDA-9807
    Infinity Referance 5 1/4
    Kicker 6x9
    3 JL Audio 12w6
Kicker 350.2 *not pictured mounted on opposite side of box*

there is a reason your front speakers have 4 mounting holes. i suggest that you use all of them.

no sh1t moron. ive installed many systems in cars like yours. i am telling you the 1 screw per speaker is a sh1tty way to install speakers. they wont sound good that way, and you wont get any bass response.

get a drill, and drill more holes, you wont be using the factory screw holes to mount the new speaker. you should also seal up any air leaks when mounting speakers.

dont post pics of a crappy install on the internet and expect people to tell you that you did a good job, when you cant even install front speakers correctly.

ease up there duct tape, he may not know any better......

And thats ok, we ALL started somewhere, and we ALL make mistakes.

One screw will hold the speaker in, for a while, so take heed to the advice and try putting in at least 3!!!!!!

Details are very important to anything you do, whether its car audio or the way you treat a woman in bed!

It just takes a little time and some practice!

One more thing that most folks dont do, and thats the cage that your radio is mounted into, paint it flat black so that the metal that always shows, doesnt stick out like a sore thumb!!!!

that has always been a pet peeve of mine!, but other wise, looks like you are of to a good start on your system.

i know he doesnt know any better, but when you dont know sh1t, you shouldnt call people ignorant. all i said to him, was that he needs to mount them with all 4 screws if he wants them to sound good. not my fault that he is a baby who can't accept advice. typical car audio noobie that knows everything already.

You can vastly improve midbass repsonse of in door speakers by deadening them. And sealing up the holes as much as possible with sound deadener as well. Can also use non hardening model clay on the baffles when you mount the drivers to kill a lot of resonances as well :)

you say i dont listen hahaha obviously you cant read as well. those are temp ways of intalling the speaks till my adapter plates come in i kno damn well about the base reponce sucking HOWEVER with the 3 jls pushin in the trunk i dont give a rats ass about lows from the speaks all i need are highs. you have no idea how my system sounds so until then how about you take your duct tape and tape your damn mouth shut. you have absolutly no idea how hard it is to install a system in a 96 + obd-2 cadillac and not have the whole damn thing go haywire and your gonna rag on me about not using all four screws. whoopie!!!!!

actually i do know how hard it is to install a stereo in your car. and its really not that bad. i have done many systems in caddys like yours. i also understand that they are temporary, but you did not say that when you first posted your pics. personally, i wouldnt have even installed them that way if i didnt have the proper parts to do the job. you take a big chance of blowing the speaker having them mounted like that.

also its a good idea to have bass up front to tie the sub bass into the front stage. maybe you should go to a car show and listen to what a real system sounds like.

i will stop trying to lead you in the right direction, because you can't handle criticism at all. have fun with your crappy stereo. :p

oh believe me i have plenty of fun with my "crappy" stereo and as for doing the job in its half ass shape, i couldnt wait half the bose amps didnt work and both the bose speaks on the left were blown so would i rather have a system that isnt the most drop dead gorgious and works damn good, or have a stereo that doesnt even work.... humm lets think and oh yea on a side note those are not the speaks i plan on using up front so blowing them idc about i have a set of kappas i plan using. so once again you are IGNORANT to the situation in which i am in therefore as i said keeping your mouth shut would be reccomended so your ignorance isnt shared with the rest of us. and notice how your glorified system all you show is a simple sub in your hatch. congradulations for all anyone knows you could of half assed that and just did a simple rca converter instead of a good crossover like the JL cleansweep. but whatever to each his own and idc what you say my friend the bose system in the 96+ Caddys isnt like any other bose system in any other car due to the on board diagnositc system and dic on the dash.

Hey now...I think you both have said what you wanted to say...so lets just drop it and get serious.

If you plan your front stage right . Using drivers that allow you to lower your crossover point on the subs. You can achieve the highly sought after "upfront bass" a lot easier. The lower you can get the crossover point on your subs, the more it will sound "upfront" :)

Hey CadillacETC1997, You don't need a lot of cash to do a good system, your already on your way there. I don't think you need a changer, your Ipod will hold all the music you need.

Your door speakers. You need a piece of 1/4-inch fiberboard and some 30-minute epoxy. Cut out the fiberboard to completely cover the Bose hole. Glue it and clamp it. Must clamp it. MUST CLAMP IT. The next morning (I know 30-minutes = 12-hours) cut out the fiber board so that your speaker will fit in.

    Major improvement in sound.

Hey are those 5-1/4-inch. Add a couple of 99 micro farad non polar electrolytic caps in line on the + speaker lead. You'll really be able to crank them with out distorting them.

Don't stop now your almost done.

Ranger, or anyone who knows...what size and kind of cap should i use for my kenwood 2way 6x8's in my explorer? My current HU doesn't have a high pass.

I'm looking for somewhere around 100hz...or do you think that is too low or high?

I would use a 200uF cap for the highs (4 ohm i am figuring). That will start the roll off at about 200z. Its only 6 dB per octave, so a little on the high side is a good thing.

Pne more thing, if the head unit shuts down or "cuts out" when the x-overs are installed, I have a solution fo that.....but doesnt seem to be an issue nowadays with the curent HU's out there...............

oh, and 30 volt is big enough, but higher voltage wont matter or effect sound quality. If ya wanna get fancy install a bypas cap! a small mylar of around .1 Mf in parallel with the electrolytic.................
