if I slow down the car's rpms jump up and down and that causes the car to pull foward in a jerky motion has anyone ever had that problem, if so how did you fix it?

How many miles does it have? Might be a bad carb, spark, etc, etc. How long has it been doing it?

My sons car had a similar problem a couple of years ago. Is it a 4 cylinder car?
It was a bad lock up torque converter clutch switch. I don't know if yours has the same problem but with his the problem occured after slowing down from over 40-45 MPH. It would even stall Occasionally.

At a certain speed the torque converter locks (a fuel economy thing) and as speed drops its supposed to unlock, his wasn't unlocking causing what you described. His car is a 93 Cavalier.

Maybe the electronics on the fuel injector system are being screwy.

I think your car is obd 1 have somebody scan your computer you might find the problem that way. Right now your just guessing, so before you start buying parts its best to have it checked out. It could be a lot of things, Mass air flow sensor, MAp sensor, EGR valve, Clogged fuel filter. Sometimes the wire on the mass air flow gets dirty and does not send the proper signal to the ecu, but thats usually in cars that run K&N air filters that you have to put the oil on. The oil gets all over the wire and thats not good. Anyway just take it into a shop or you can buy a scanner yourself . Its not that hard to scan it and I think obd 1 scanners are pretty cheap these days.

Your all wrong it sure sounds like it needs a new IDLE CONTROL SENSOR. mileage has no affect on idle or other air flow an gas flow.
the regal's where known for bad airflow i had owned before an 86 turbo regal those cars are fun to drive but a pain to work on

    I'm with ya, stang..

There is an easy self diagnostic procedure that you can do to asess the situation. as long as your check engine light works, try this:

there are instructions on the bottom of the page to tell you how to obtain and identify these codes.
