my friend i bought my sound system had it sitting on the floor when i went to pick it up but his 2 puppies ended up biteing a hole in each foam surround. i was wondering since they are actual HOLES not tears or cracks if it is fixable? id really like to fix them since they're amazing and expensive subs. how can i patch them? are they worth patching or should i just save my money in repairing and go buy a set of Sony XPlods? **picture one has a hole 4mm long 1.5mm wide **picture two has a hole .5mm wide 1mm long with 3mm tail split
well first off dont waste your money on sony explodes! and if your worried about looks put the subs in a box with the magnet facing out!
I have made repairs such as this. using black automotive silicone and some thinner silicone rubber. Had to make clamp to press the patch in place and allow it to cure. smashes the surround a bit but makes the sub usable .....
Might work....for a while. remember, the surround is part of the speaker that isolates the front and back of the driver. there is air pressure at play here. You want a good mechanical connection and one that will stay put. Electrical tape...no. Duxk tape might surprise you. But bottom line with the flex involved and pressures developed, I doubt it would make a lasting result. never know till you try though.
if u want it to look right go find a messed up sub with a good surround and cut a peice to fit and take a clear glue and silicon on the underside so it dont show, should work fine.
