I purchased all of these items last year for my Nissan Frontier extended cab. My system started off differently and ended up with what I have today.

    Head unit - Kenwood DNX-6160

Memphis Audio Street Reference 6x9's - shop didn't have Performance series so I went with these.

    Memphis Audio Performance 6.5's

Two Memphis Audio Performance 12" subs in an enclosed box

    1 Memphis Audio PR1 x 500 amp for subs

Kenwood excelon X600F 4 channel amp for 6x9's and 6.5's.

1 pr of Boston Acoustic neo type-M Se tweeters

I blew out my right 6x9 and am looking to replace the set.

I am wondering if I should replace them with another pair of 6x9's or have a plate constructed so I can put another pair of 6.5's in the front doors. Any recommendations? I love the way the Boston Acoustic tweeters sound and thought about buying some BA Pro 60 Se's to replace the 6x9's. I would probably replace the Memphis Audio 6.5's with some BA as well.

When I was purchasing and assembling my system, I really wanted clear, clean sound. I do enjoy the quality of the sound but I find myself wanting louder levels. Perhaps I just got used to my system and it doesn't seem as loud anymore. It was never my intent to have my vehicle rattling, but I do find myself wanting a little more kick.

I listen to classic rock, music from the 80's and 90's, some jazz, salsa and a little of everything else. Artists I enjoy are Rush, Dave Matthews Band, Jamey Johnson, too name a few.

Any thoughts on what I can do to improve my listening experience? I appreciate any constructive feedback. Thanks.

I would just replace them with some 6x9 midbass speakers, the Boston tweeters should give you plenty of upper range sound their own. i also try to keep my speakers the same brand, they all use different materials to make the speakers which give them all different sound, just a thought.

I don't know if you have a budget or not, but most experienced people in car audio will suggest getting a bracket adapter for the front to change your 6x9's to a 6.5", but if you want to keep the 6x9", I would highly suggest the Infinity Reference 9623i, these get loud and stay super clear. Here is a youtube video I recorded of mine, keep in mind my windows were up and my camera took away a lot of the sound quality, but even though they were in the back of my car they were still really loud off the HU without an amp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qovxUhk_yw

If you want to go with a set of 6.5", I have the Pioneer TS-D1720C powered with a Pioneer GM-D9500F and I love them! I have played songs on them that get so loud it feels like my ears about to bleed haha, but I don't do that very often! Anyways, here is a video of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss1gpdYl4F4&feature=relmfu

Hey Tyson. Thanks for the reply. Those Pioneers do sound good. I have a Pioneer Elite receiver and I really appreciate the quality. I ended up replacing the blown 6x9's with a pair of Hybrid Audio Clarus 6.5 components. I am extremely pleased with them. I will be replacing the Memphis Audio 6.5's in the rear next. I was leaning towards either a pair of Hybrid Audio Imagines or a pair of Morel Integras. I will check into the Pioneer TS-D1720C's before making my final decision. Thanks for sharing.

as i see it when replacing speakers i got no less then 1 step up from what i have.... and no mis matching of speaker material.... ie no glass in the rear and fiber up front this leads to a side effect that you can't tune past... different speaker materials respond differently to the same ammount of power thus giving different sounds...
