I have a BOSS amp that has a sensitivity switch. The two positions are marked as 2-8V and 100mV-2v. What is this switch for, and how should i ahve it set?

my guess, is that you can switch the amps sensitivity to match the subs sensitivity specs

but if a sub has a higher sensitivity it needs less power to play louder and work harder then compared to a sub with a lower sensitivity,

so check out what sensitivity your sub is your using and flick the switch to the range of the sub and this should let the amp power the sub better and then the sub produce sound better with the correct sensitivty range.

but ive never seen one on a amp before so this is a guess, but seems logical as to why it has one

What voltage rating do you have from your hu pre-amp out-puts?

I am not sure. I will do some googleing an edit this post when I find out. I found the Book for my HU. I couldn't find the voltage rating for the pre amp output. The HU is a sony Xplod CDX-GT540UI.

They are 2 volts. I'm not positive but it seems like you could set that switch to either and then set your gain accordingly.

Ok. So If i have the switch set to 2V I have to have the gain about three quarters of the way up. With it set the on the other setting I only have to have the gain at about a quarter. I guess I'll leave it this way. Thanks guys.

Id say have it that way. Means your amp is working less to produce the same volume
