I have a 1999 Lincoln towncar and I want to get subs for it. I have very little knowledge of car audio. What Subs should I get? Fairly cheap with the price below 500.00 for subs stereo And amp plus wiring. I also would like to know how to install them since I have only a little knowledge of subs. Is there anyway to get like a quick disconnect so I can use the trunk space if I need it? Thanks for your time and please reply. Tyler
Unless you want like a 300-400 watt system. I had a 400 watt system that i think i paid around $400 for. Wasn't the greatest stuff but it sounded pretty good for the price. All i had was a Pioneer head unit that i paid like $100 for, 400Watt Insignia amp was like $50, Two 12's RE REX Series subs(Very nice entry level subs) were $120 for both, Ported box was $80 and the wire kit is probably less than $20 for a 8 gauge depending on what brand you get. I dont have the system anymore, i am working on a bigger and better system but it was a great entry level system. Now not saying you have to buy that exact stuff, but all i did was look around on ebay for all these things. The one thing i would look into on ebay at least though is a pioneer or alpine head unit on ebay, you can get a nice one for around $100. Other than that you might also want to maybe go around to some local shops, sometimes they have great deals on subs+box packages or even subs+box+amp packages. As far as hooking it up, the amp wire kit comes with everything you need to hook up your system, you have your power wire which goes from the amp directly to the positive on your battery with the inline fuse that is supplied with the kit, you have a ground which you just ground to a bolt in the trunk or wherever you are mounting your amp, remote wire goes to the back of your head unit, there should be a wire labeled remote turn on or something like that, the rca cables also go to the back of your head unit, and then speaker wire are just pos to pos and neg to neg. After you get some stuff then you can get a more detailed answer however if you get a deal at a local shop sometimes they will hook everything up for free, then maybe you can just watch them to see how they do it.
Any idea about a way to take the subs out of the trunk quick so I can use the truck space?...I don't have to worry about anybody stealing the subs because the trunk lock is inside of the car... So they have to break te window then try to open the lock
Its not very hard to take the subs out of the trunk, all you do is disconnect the speaker wires that go to them, there is no need to unscrew anything, most of the time it is just push terminals on the subwoofer box, very easy and quick to disconnect them and pull the box out, unless of course you are like me and some people who bolt there box down to the floor of the trunk for extra security, but it sounds like you are not gonna be doing that.
