Want to help friend with truck sub. Box I want to try to build is like 3" deep top. 5" deep bottom, 14" tall front, and 35" wide. Is it possible to port this type of box for one 12" sub?

you need to find out the cubic feet and what you want it tuned at so it will give you the size of the port ^_^

He gave us the dimensions, thats enough to calculate the volume.

The box is really too small to make a ported enclosure. The internal volume is less than 0.75 cu ft. The minimum port for a 12-inch woofer would be a port with a 4-inch diameter. Tuned to 45Hz it would need to be about 20-inches long, tuned to 40Hz it would need to be about 26-inches long. A 25-inch long port would take up about .22 cu ft. This would leave us with less volume in the box and thus an even longer port.

So my answer will be No

it can be done...is that the total space u have?

Of course it can be done, but the sound quality would be awful. I could also use a smaller port, a 3-inch would be shorter. So now we would have a very high vent velocity. So now we would have a small box, which already peaks high plus a loud vent.

Again I do not consider myself an expert, I've only built around 500 to 600 boxes. But from the little experience I do have I can tell you how its going to sound.

Very small ported boxes always sound bad.

The total volume depends, is it 5/8-inch (most store bought mass produced wedges are) then the internal volume is 0.68 cu ft. If its 3/4-inch, then the volume is 0.61 cu ft.

So again, can we? Sure we can, I can port a 0.10 cu ft box.
So again, do we want to? No, it will sound awful

i would never use a round port anyways.. i would prolly kerf a port to cut down on port noise... also im asking him if thats the max space he can use so we could make the box bigger... and idk what kind of sub he is putting in there that has only a 4 inch mounting depth but those demensions will obviously not work... so ima try to help him get a ported box in the truck instead of say it will sound bad......

Sorry for the delay, I am going to see what the biggest size box I can get in there and what sub he has. So thank you all for the reply. Trying to talk him out of a truck kicker box.
