I have a Kicker l5 12" that just went out, no idea why, and im looking to get a new sub. I have a MTX jh600 amp that puts out 600w at 2 ohms and 350 at 4 ohms, and im sticking with a 2 ohm sub. Ive been looking at the JL 12w6 ...the w7 costs too much and i would need more power.
What do you guys think about the W6, and does it come in 2 ohms?
What are the best, loudest sub(s) i can get with the amp i have?

Just look for a sub that's very efficient.I have a cerwin vega 15 that's 96 spl/watt efficient, and it's louder than my type r 15 on 400 watts. Some of the off brands fudge their #'s so just look for a sub from a reputable company.

Give us some details about your enclosure(size, tuning, etc).

I will get a new enclosure with the sub, but i dont want it any bigger than my Kicker box, which is about 18" x 18", 16" tall. This is behind the passenger seat in my Ranger extra cab, and the kicker box is almost too big for it and since the port is on the side it makes it even harder to position.
I want a ported enclosure, and having the port on the front would be best. Is this a good idea as compared to having it on the side?

I have all 4 speakers in my truck amplified, so drowning out the music with bass is not a problem for me. I want as much bass as i can get and i like fast response with deep, low bass. I think ive narrowed it down to either the JL 12w6 or the 13w6. JL's website has charts that show the optimum amount of power to put into their subs, and 600w from my amp is too much for the 12" but perfect for the 13" which is 750w rms.
What do you guys think about the 13W6v2?
The specs say the nominal impedance is dual 4 ohm, so would that make the final impedance 2 ohms?

And what would be the best enclosure for this sub?

I would also consider getting 2 10's if i can get them louder than a 12/13"

I had a bandpass box with 2 10's in an ext cab ranger back in '95('94 ranger)and it sounded pretty good back then. But now I only run ported. The box for 2 10's ported will need to be alot bigger than 1 for a 12,so keep that in mind.

Yea im sticking with a 12. I would just like to hear some honest opinions about the JL 13w6.
How does it compare to 12's, especially the 12w6/7?
Im keeping my options open for the box, and i dont know if i should go with a ported, sealed or bandpass box. I like ported boxes a little better even though i dont have much experience with subs.
And how good is my amp for the JL 13? its a MTX JH600

ported and band pass is still ported... if built right each would sound the same.

i want to say a forward fire in your truck would not sound right... i think side firing the port is your better option.

ive had to move a small ported box i used to have in my jimmys hatch and my bass all but disappeared when the port faced forward. port to the side in a truck seems to work best.

If you are searching for a efficient 12 don't forget Image dynamics. Very musical & the ID & IDQ line doesn't need lots of power to run. Unfortunately it looks like they are closing their doors but still a excellent sub
