Hi, I have a 2005 Cadillac SRX with stock system, no navigation, 6 disk cd changer, no bose. I believe my fronts/backs are 6 1/2 speakers, 2 8" subs in the back. I went to best buy on lunch as I work near one & they want $50 for just a consultation. They guessed though $1k for a $70 stereo, new speakers, an amp & misc parts. I was like ummm no. Today I went to a car audio store & they showed me a pioneer stereo for 150 and $550 total with install. They said my stereo is connected to the computer in my car so I need a $300 adapter. Now my thoughts are get new speakers for my doors but everyone I call rates me at $800 or so. Is this the normal? I'm not looking for anything crazy. I just want more volume & a teeny bit more bass. Can anyone help me out & tell me if the info is accurate that's been given to me & based off what I want can you recommend what I should get for my caddy? Thanks a lot for your help!
They r trying to rip u off. The questions u r posing probably sets off "sucker" in their commision filled brains. I say do some internet searches about upgrades for ur car. Decide what u want in a head unit. Bluetooth? HD radio. One set of preouts? Two sets? etc. The more options the more it costs. Install prices will vary. You will probably need an install kit. Your budget sets ur limitations. There is some decent lower end stuff. U dont have to break the bank. Heres an example: Alpine CD102-$90 at Crutchfield 10 in Kenwood sub at Best Buy-$70 Alpine 500 mrp Best Buy $199 Box for sub Best Buy $35 Front 6 1/2- pioneer $70 So whats that $460ish. Of course thats clearance items. Point is do the homework. Save ur hard earned money. A decent stereo shop will charge around $150-$200 for install. Or save ur money and find a friend who can help u do it for lunch and a six pack. Good luck. Let us know what u get. Woofers.com also has good prices and clearance items.
yea they are trying to take you. try crutchfield.com, give them a call, they can help you with anything you need and can tell you what you need to make it work in your car, they even give you instructions on how to install it. If not at least they can educate you on what you need so next time you go to a store you know whats up.
thanks for the responses. I called more places today & what everyone telling me is that the install on a Caddy is whats making it difficult due to the wiring. I have called crutchfield a few times and they have been helpful but self install & me do not go together lol. Through some research I heard that the front speakers are the most important and I figured what if I get 2 new front speakers & a 2 way amp and just do that for now so I called around and once again I'm being quoted roughly 1K which again is craziness to me. I'm at my breaking point. I want to give up & just say screw it, I'm stuck with what I got but thats not me. I am obsessive and feel like I am on a mission. I am also realizing I may have to do this piece by piece since I'm on a budget. I really wish I could get a new deck b/c right now the way I listen to music in my car is via my bluetooth adapter on my visor which is essentially a FM transmitter and I only listen to whats on my iPhone library or Pandora Radio. Its that damn wireless harness/connection kit thats killing me bc its so expensive. Without that they say I will lose my chimes amongst other things which I'll admit I really dont fully understand exactly what would happen if I had a deck installed without the wireless harness but if I could do without that then I know I can buy a radio & have it installed for like $225 max. Ok sorry for the rambling lol.
The adapter you need is the Axxess GMOS-10. It will cost you around $90 to $120 depending on where you get it. With the correct adapter you don't have to cut any wires. Everything plugs in. And everything will work (except the factory changer) Without the adapter, forget it. You'll wind up butchering your truck. While it can be done, you'll have to run speaker wires to each of your speakers, the new HU can run 4 speakers. You'll lose your factory subs. Also there is no ignition wire behind the factory radio. Another wire you'll have to run. You really need the correct interface
