i have a 16x16x16 with a 3.5 inch port 10" long in the center of the bottom. its 3/4" thick mdf. i plan on putting a 12" sub nothing special in it. would this be a OK ported box to start with? oh, it is really a home stereo box for a powerd sub but the amp blew so i was gonn a use the box. thanks for any help
the port needs to breath, it cant be on the bottom of the box unless you mean bottom center of the front of the box. 3.5" port= 3.5" away from any obstacles, (for every inch the port is in diameter is how far away from any obstacles it needs to be)
it is on the bottom but the box has short legs about 2 inches long, i went ahead and installed it. Not a very well built box for a kenwood home stereo box. Had air leaks every where but it did sound decent with the trunk closed. im gonna have to start from scratch and build one myself. i'll get some pics of the box and the trunk so you can see what ive got to work with as far as room but dude if you could help me figure out how to get the size right for the box and port i would appreciate it
first off, I we will need to know the drand of the sub, power ratings, and if your wanting SQ or SPL.
the sub is a 12" Niche Audio 250w RMS 500w max.12" Subwoofer Specifications 500 watts peak 250 watts continous music power Dual 2.5" 4 Ohm high temperature black anodized aluminum voice coils 40oz. hyperflux balanced magnets 91db (1 watt/1 meter) sensitivity i would say i would rather have SQ than SPL. not real sure i know the diff. well i mean i know its sound qualaity vs sound pressure but what does that acually mean? sound pressure? is that what makes everything shake and rattle? let me make it easy, i want a good sound from my single 12" sub. the music i listen to is anything from Disturbed, Drowning pool to the Gap band. I dont do rap crap and very little country. this is my first car system, i have always had single cab trucks with sealed boxes behind the seat. i hate to be a dummy here but never got this involved into the box details. Thanks for the help man.
