I know this is pretty basic stuff, but i don't have alot of experience with amps.

What gauge wire would i need for the amp's ground wire?

First we need to know what amp you have to help you, all amps come in different power ratings, they each can take smaller/bigger wiring.

    It's a Cadence FXA-1500. 1 X 300 watts @ 4 ohms. Running @ 4 ohms.

I have it in my Bronco and have to move it around occationally to fit other stuff in the back. The 24" ground wire is just not long enough. I need about a 48" length ground wire.

8 gauge should be adequate, but 4 would be better at that length....

What part of Iowa ya from? I grew up in that state...

go with 4 gauge. and make it about 6"-1ft longer than what you need (how i know, just ask me)
and make your power wire the same gauge

I typically put the biggest gauge wire that the amp will accept!
I like to be safe than sorry
