I am auditioning 6.5 components for my Dodge Ram 2500 Quad cab. The JL R5's had nice warm sound with plenty of mid-bass, smooth. Female vocals had body with no sibilation. The Focal's were airy in the upper freqs. and had better detail and micro dynamics than the JL's. I did like the robust sound of the JL's, if only they were a little more detailed. I would like the best of both worlds. If anyone has any suggestions other than these two fine speakers it would be greatly appreciated. I also heard the Focal 165 VR's and preferred the VB's.
Look....bottom line..You are a critical listener of music... ONLY YOU can discern what sounds best in your car. I have an opinion of what sounds good. so do others... There are many drivers that sound awesome....and within that range of SQ speakers we have an arguement of what sounds the best....i wont go there. let YOUR ears decide... that is all
Thanks for responding theviking. I see you are from the show me state, I too. Do you know, where in Missouri, to go for largest selection of speakers to audition. It has been a while since since I last bought car audio gear and things can change. I surely understand that only my ears can discern what impresses me, but was just hoping to quicken the process as there are a lot of possibilites. Warm, detailed, dynamic with good transient response is what I am after.
The closest areas for me are joplin, Springfield, and N.W. Arkansas. And I have only been to a few Stores. What area are you from? You might look online or check the yellow pages for some sources.
