i'm more old school and not up to date with new products....I have a jl audio 1000/1,jl audio 300/4, alpine head unit,infininty kappa 6 1/2 comp in front and 6x9's in the rear of a ford ranger...I had one 12w6v2 in a 1.75 ported box @ 8 ohms because the amp is to big...(rip the foam)..;(..anyways I wanna find a good pair of subs to replace it...im going to put them in a 1.25 sealed box....i can get the cvx's for $139 and the type R's for $119...I really like the type x but its out of my price range....any speaker opinions welcomed...looking for quality on a budget if thats possible..lol..thank you
i know i have 2 kickers crv and they are pretty intense for the price and the low base sounds are GREAT..you cant go wrong with alpine but id say the kicker quality is a little better and would personally go with them. (i just really like mine lol)
I had the old solo barics 12's in the late 90's and they where pretty good so know more about kicker subs but the alpine type R's look like they are built better then the kickers cvx's plus they are a little cheaper...the R's look like a $400 sub but I don't know much about them...thanks for your reply...I take my sound serious and this is the first time im on a budget because my funds are low...lol...I only want to spend around $150 a sub so these will be the cheapest subwoofers I have ever purchased...
one key element in your decision is what driver will work best in your available airspace. Box is the largest contributor to a drivers performance.........
i have both my kickers and my sonys in basically the same type of box so it will all fit in my trunk they are large about 33-35 inchs long 17 or so deep and about 15 wide and have slotted ports in the middle on the front. this design almost seems to be universal or at least to my ears..lol i made them myself and very proud of them and how it sounds. and the alpines may look better but imo i would gather to think kickers are actually more durable. i got my kickers because of a budget and very happy i did. I guess it depends on how important that extra money is to you right now.
So true theviking!!!! im going with a 1.25 per chamber sealed box.....I just want the best sub for the money and these two subs came to mind....if you reccommend a better sub in that price range please tell...thanks again for you replies...
i've personally had the alpine type Rs and a friend of mine had the cvx 12s..the alpines sound a lot better, hit the notes differently than the cvx did. it had deeper, better sounding bass imo. they also can take a good beating, 1000 rms daily easily. on the other hand, the cvx beats harder than the type r
either way...if they work in the box, it sounds to me like a personal thing... Like i always say....let your ears decide....
I have a pair of the type r's RIGHT NOW. i'll tell you this: you can beat the ever loving hell out of em. lol. i have them in a 1.75 ported in the sealed trunk of a lincoln towncar. had them on a 150 rms amp and people thought they were pushed by AT LEAST 800. Now, i got them on rxd planet audio 1400 and they are slap-a$$ rediculous. they ARE built MUCH BETTER than the JUNK kicker puts out today(not a hater on kicker, but they really need to get their act together). the surround is triple-layer so they suspend alot different than most subs, therefore, they can play A WHOLE LOT LOWER without even the chance of ripping.very happy. hope this helps.
I had my doubts about type Rs. But I have two 10s and they freakin' hit hard. I have had the Kickers and they hit hard too but not like the Alpines. As mentioned the box is the key. But at the end if the day what matters is what u can afford. I was reading an article about budget subs and the Type X was in the list. At $350 a pop doesnt sound like budget to me. So that would place the Kickers and the Type Rs below the "budget" sub category. Apparently if u want big boy toys its gonna cost ya. You will be pleased with either one.
I would go with the type r since these are the subs I have but I have been reading in other forums that the bass of kicker subs sounds diferent than the bass from alpine subs I have not heard the cvxs so I can't really tell you they sound bad but if I was you I would take the type rs I have had mine in a probox for about a year and a half and they sound really good
