i have a 1200watt boss amp and audiobahn q flame 12..the other day i got curious to see if i could run it daul voice coiled to get more thump...the bass cuts off when you turn the volume up to a certain point and then comes back on when you turn it back down before that point in the volume.....is my amp not powerfull enough for the sub or does anyone know what problem im running into?
    thanks brian:confused:

Sounds like your amp can't take the ohm load. What model is your amp and what is the voice coil configuration of your sub?

Wiring that way is called parallel wiring. If your sub is a 2ohm DVC, your amp is seeing 1ohm. If it's a 4ohm DVC, your amp is seeing 2ohms.

If your amp isn't 2 or 1 ohm stable (depending on the VCs in your sub) that could be the problem.

Do you know if your amp is going into protect mode when it cuts out?

Sorry, but he said the amp was 2-channel, so he would have to have bridged it. That means for a dual 2-Ohm, the amp is loaded at 1/2-Ohm and a dual 4-Ohm would be 1-Ohm. It's too low either way.

Remember, for a bridged amp, you need to divide the speaker's nominal load by two.

i did some research on the speaker....its a 3 ohm..and trying to see how i can get the best punch out of the sub without hurting the amp...i learned that the parallel was not good cause its running down to 1 ohm and amp cant handle that...which would be the best way to wire the dual voice coils also

update::::::Diablo Series 2-Channel Class AB Car Amplifier RMS Power Rating: 4 ohms: 230 watts x 2 chan. Max power output: 600 watts x 2 channel................. i thought it was a 1200watt amp..its not...so now my question is how would i run the daul voice coils to match this amp......i guess now i will start saving for a better amp with more power
