yesterday i installed in the front of my 98 ford contour two brand new pioneer speakers. used the correct ford adapters and that night, they worked just fine. this morning i turn my car on and i got no sound at all from the right side of my car. both the new speaker in the front and the stock speaker in the rear are not working. I took apart the right side front door and pulled out the speaker to find that the teeth of the speaker had "drooped", perhaps because they got too hot? the connectors had also fallen off. I reconnected them and secured them with electrical tape and the speaker worked again. the rear still is not on but i didn't bother with it yet... havent had the time. later on in the evening the sound dropped out again. i am assuming that perhaps the tape melted and the connectors once again fell off. i have yet to take the door panel off again to look. what could be causing this to happen? i don't think that it is normal for the teeth of a new speaker to bend like that under heat... but i don't know too much. i had to purchase these adapters so that i could hook the speakers up: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260541667379&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT could it be that the adapter for the right side is bad? please help :[
are You using an amp on these? or just head unit power? and what do you mean by teeth......the electrical connectors? To cause issues with the electrical connections through adverse heat is almost unheard of....especially in the type of drivers you indicate. Are you sure the window or its mechanism has not hit the terminations or wiring....with the speaker out...roll the window up and down to be sure you have adequate clearance.......DO THIS FIRST then gat back to us!
Like Viking had suggested, it sounds to me that your window is hitting the terminals of your speaker. Especially if its "drooped" and the terminals have disconnected. If it were heat as you suggested, I think the plastic on the teminals would have melted along with the actual wires. If there is interference from the Viking's test, you might have to use spacers between the door and speakers or move the speakers to another location.
its just a sony hu powering them.. no amp. i will check the window clearance tomorrow but would that also effect the rear speaker? i dont know why that one would have stopped too... any ideas on that?
Are the wires disconnected from the terminals (I assume that is the "teeth" you are describing) ? You have a harness. There is no reason you need electrical tape. Perhaps the terminals on the wires are bent therefore not gripping the speaker terminals properly. You can bend them a little bit with some needlenose pliers to tighten them up. Once they are on, they shouldn't pull off with a slight tug on the wire. They should only pull off by gripping the actual terminal and with some reasonable force. If the terminals are crap and bending them does no good, you could always buy some new terminals for a couple bucks at any hardware or auto store and crimp new ones on.
shorting of the wires could have caused the unit to shut down, or go into a protect mode so to speak...
was the window.. whenever it was rolled down it grabbed hold of the harness and pretty much yanked the connection apart. shortened the wires of the harness and taped all the hard edges up really good. now there is no problem at all replaced the right rear speaker with one of the stocks from the front and it works again. thanks for the help!! i really appreciate it!
