I was wondering...I'm planning to build a box for my sub and i calculated my minimum port diameter to be 4.88". Now if i use a 5" port, the lenght will need to be 25.05" apparently... and that seems wayyy too long... (doesn't sound right to me either :huh So i was wondering if its possible to split the 5" port into two 2.5" ports, which will need 12.53" of lenght each port. Will spliiting them still add up to 5" in diameter? Box is 1.80ft3 tuned to 32Hz also, the depth of my box is 14", how far from the back should my port ideally be? If that makes sense? Thanks!
NO!!!!!!!!!! the surface area of one 5 inch port is not the same as two 2.5 inch ports.... post info on the type of sub. the enclosure volume, and anything else.....we will get you where you need to be...
Tweeters, I deleted two of your posts. If you post a link that is supposed to go to speaker specs, then I suggest that it actually goes to speaker specs.
In circles, one circle is exactly the same area as four circles half it's diameter. So it takes four 8" pizzas to equal one 16" pizza. Porting is not that linear. One might think that a 2" port that is 10" long would need to be shortened if the diameter were doubled to 4", but the inverse is true. The port would need to be longer than 10". As far as the port depth, it is bad practice to have the end less than the port diameter. If the port is 4" diameter, you should allow at least 4" to the back wall.
