I just replaced my JL 12W3V3 with a JL 12W6V2 and I have some questions about hooking it up to my MTX X500D amp. The subwoofer can be configured to be connected at 2 ohms and 8 ohms. I made it so the subwoofer is at 2 ohms then connected it in parallel to one channel on my amp. Does it seem like I connected it correct or should I do it differently? Then I found a website that tells how to set the gain correctly and what you do is download a 50hz test tone then take the rms rating of your amp times how many ohm load you have then square root that. So here is mine 500*2=1000...sqrt 1000 = 31.62. So I played the test tone and connected my digital multimeter then turned the gain up till it said 32. That was only about a quarter of the way up and the sub is really quiet. For my W3 it was about 2/3 of the way up. I also noticed when the shop hooked up my W3 the + on the sub went to - on the amp and - on the sub went to + on the amp. Please help!!
it sounds to me that tha shop reversed tha polarity for bass gain reasons. but i wouldnt worry about that test tone stuff check your x-over freq. and turn tha bass gain up a little. try that.
So you don't think to use the test tones? How much should I turn the gain up? Then should I leave my subsonic and lpf at the same adjustments I had it on for my JL W3
