As we all know the Hornload Box didn't work, so I decided to go with a sealed down fire

The downfire box is almost done.

The finish is a Duplicolor Bed Liner Paint. It needs one more coat for 3 coats. I'll do that tomorrow. Then mount the woofer and install it soon.

One question, would a clear coat paint be beneficial or not? If so what brand or type?

    Good Question

As boxes get smaller and smaller, subwoofer performance suffers. Small enclosures force the subwoofer frequency to roll off early and it makes the enclosure good for midrange (exaggerating slightly ). In order to fix the problem we need to increase the front loading of the subwoofer to try to recover some of the low frequencies. So down firing the woofer increases the front loading and improves performance.

I think i would have to agree with KVO. Clear coat would not add any real durability to the finish. But, it might make for a glossier finish......depending on the type of clear coat.

PS. think you missed a spot on the bottom corner! LOL

The next pictures will be of the box in the car

But it will have to wait until the temp drops, I'm not installing anything when its 100+ degrees outside.

Looks awesome! Be sure to let us know how it sounds.

Is there supposed to be a cut or hole for the speaker wires to reach the terminal cup, or are the wires going under the sub through the slot, or just under the side of the box?

The box will sit in the car with the subwoofer facing down, look at the pictures in the first post. Thats what you will see. In other words, you won't see the woofer. You also won't see the speaker wire.

I hope I understood your question and answered it

i think he meant is where will the wire be run as there is no notch for the wire to pass thru.

ericj my guess is that since it will set on carpet no notch will be needed.

The sub is rated at 200 watts RMS so I bought an amp rated at 300 watts RMS. In my mind this is a perfect match. The sound is awesome, I really like it
