Right now I have an Fi BTL 15. I just built a 4.75 cu ft box, tuned to about 30hz maybe a tad lower, for my blazer. I have a Hifonics brutus 2610d (2600 rms at 1 ohm) on it and it sounds great, and is very loud down to about 27 hz. Anything lower than that and it starts to bottom out the sub, otherwise it's a great setup. I'm trying to stick with one sub and not take up too much more room if I don't have too, does anyone have some suggestions of subs that will take that power and play a little lower?

now im not a box builder, but what if you built a box that was tuned a lil lower? i know ive heard those subs play lower than 27HZ.

could it also be that the box is a lil too big? i do know that the larger the box the more efficient it is but power handling is reduced.

im sure someone will chime in soon.

Sounds like you should tune your box a bit lower and make sure to use a subsonic filter.

I do use a subsonic filter. But that does sound right.. either way I want to get something that can handle more power

If you box is really tuned to 30, then handling 27Hz should be no problem. I've built boxes tuned to 45, that had no problem handling middle 20's. So I'm gonna assume there is something seriously wrong with the box.

By the way, what song are you playing that has a 27 Hz sound?

Ranger, a lot of newer slowed (chopped) rap music have notes that play in the mid 20's. from what ive seen its more for wowing the crowd at an spl event.

i have teammates with systems with some impressive low note capabilities, yet still play reg music as well.

Well I forgot to explain thoroughly but the sub will play below 27 hz, but I would have to turn the bass down, which is what I'm trying not to have to do, which is why I want a sub that can handle more power.

and yes like pedro said I like listening to songs like that which have very low bass.

Forget everything I said before, the box is fine it all sounds great I just want something that can take more power, does anyone have some good suggestions?

Regardless, any box tuned to 30 should have no problem handling 27. So I seriously doubt its tuned to 30 Hz. Just because the port is tuned to 30 does not mean that the box is tuned to 30. I doubt MitaG3 knows where his box is tuned, but if it can not handle a 27 hz signal, its NOT tuned to 30 Hz. As I stated previously, I have built boxes tuned to 45 Hz that had no problem handling 27 Hz.

In any event, when we get into the 20's, (some might even argue the middle 30's), we are no longer dealing with music. We are dealing with low frequency noise.

If you want to handle 20 Hz then use a sealed box.

Large boxes are real efficient, handle low frequencies well but you tend to lose control especially as power increases. Small boxes are less efficient peak at a higher frequency (regardless of port tuning) but tend to allow good power handling. (I'm being very general).

Overall the best control and overall frequency response is from a sealed box. But we do lose a little volume. But performance is really predictable.

well said ranger. The ability to produce extremely low frequencies at extreme volumes becomes very difficult. especially in the mobile enviorment. If i remember right, for every octave going down, you have to quadruple the cone area, or the power, or excursion capabilities to achieve the the same level of SPL you get at a higher frequency. Like you said, this is a general conclusion. To get low and loud, you need more power and more drivers and more box volume than you could ever fit in any thing other than an 18 wheeler trailer! LOL!

seriously. other than maybe feeling the wind blow out your windows, most any vehicle cannot effectively allow the reproduction of anything lower than about 40 Hz . outside the vehicle, yes, the quarter wave can develope and really raise some hell

    You do remember. I'm Impressed.

Okay, now does anyone have suggestions for subs that can handle more power well?

And for the record I designed this box with a man from the leading stereo shop in the area, so i'm pretty confident that it is not tuned high.

And what I'm going for is very loud and very low, so sealed is not ideal
