So I am in the market to build a cheaper sound system and after hearing a dudes Ford Ranger with only 1 SWR 1042 in it, I am amazed of the sound with just 1 10" sub. I am looking at getting 1 Alpine SWR 10 or 12 for the trunk of my 97 Accord. I am not sure what amp to get on a budget but I can get a great deal on a brand new RF Punch 300.1 for $118.00 brand new. Will this do the job with 1 sub? Will it run 2 10's well? The Alpine are rated very high in the power handling department and I am worried about under powering. I listen to 95% rock, metal, classic rock, so if anyone knows of a better sub or subs for under $150 for this type of music, let me know.
Yes it should run a single 12 or two 10's. But most of your performance will be your box. A good ported box will definately play louder than a sealed box. My favorite less expensive woofer is the PowerBass L-124D 12" Subwoofer. Two of these in a ported box will definately rock (my son has two of these woofers).
Thanks for the help. Just got off the phone with my brother and he can get me a Rockford P2 12" for $95.00, so I think I might get that. Can I ask without sounding like an idiot, do I want the 2 OHM or 4 OHM, I forgot to ask him and I cannot get a hold of him at the moment. Here is what the Punch 300.1 says. Rated Power 150W x 1 @ 4-Ohms RMS 300W x 1 @ 2-Ohms RMS Dynamic Power 240 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohms 0 degrees Res 404 Watts x 1 @ 2-Ohms 0 degrees Res
you should get a dual 4 ohm woofer. the final load will be 2 ohms to maximize the power from your amp. the powerbass subs are good subs. if you want to save some cash you can look into the hifonics 12 for 28.00 new. it will handle 300 watts all day long. not sure on the price of the powerbass tho, but either one will sound good in the right box. it's all in the box build.
