    Hi all,
Just have some basic questions here. Hitting a mid life crisis here and would like to install a new cd/stereo in my PT cruiser. Anyways, I don't need a super kick A** system, just something louder and better than the factory one that is in there. First off does anyone know what the wattage is of the factory stereos ( i am assuming they are quite low)? The one I am looking at is a Sony that is rated 50Wx4 ( 17Wx4 continuous) I want to make sure this will be more powerful than the factory one. Also, I will be using the factory installed speakers for now. MAybe someday I'll upgrade them but want to make sure I don't blow them with this unit. Any idea what the standard factory speakers are rated at as far as wattage. Again my goal is not to blow the windows out or rattle the fenders off just a good increase in loudness and better sound than the original. Any other suggestions. Tight budget as well .Thanks

I would leave the factory HU and replace the speakers instead. you wont get that much more power from the Sony anyway, besides you will be playing them through crappy factory speaker. If you have ever compared a factory speaker with an aftermarket one you will see what im talking about. Are you just looking for an increase in loudness or better sound quality?

Basically I am looking for it to be a bit louder and clearer. I notice that the front speakers (4) doors/dash seem to be pretty loud and clear however when you switch to the rear only the speakers seem awful muffled and not very loud ( I believe they have always been this way). I can do this in pieces and change the rears out now with some aftermarket ones and see how that does then I can move on if needed. I never really heard the difference between aftermarket and factory but I have to believe if the aftermarket give a clearer crispier sound that it will probably raise the overall volume level a bit. I would hate to install a new stereo and find out it sounds just as bad through the factory speakers.

what is your budget for the speaker upgrade?

im sure we can find you a good set up front and an ok set in the back. the back set doesnt need to be as good as the fronts.

you want the good stuff for you up front.
