I am told by a guy in my car forum that these connectors are from an aftermarket head unit which a previous owner must have installed. I would like to be able to replace the head unit without having to take my dash apart to figure out all the wiring. The car is a 1988 BMW 535i, which originally featured a common ground setup. I have no idea how it is configured now. When I bought the car it did not have a head unit.

I know that I'm not going to get great sound from the 22 year old speakers in my car. When I have the time and money I will replace the entire setup, but in the meantime I would be very happy if I could buy a head unit that would function as a drop-in replacement. If anybody could identify this connection, I would appreciate it.
