I'm trying to upgrade my speakers in my car. I know very little about speakers, amps, and all that stuff. I still want to keep my factory stereo for the extra data on my car and my xm radio. I know one of my speakers is blown so I thought I would go ahead and do a complete change out. I like loud so I was thinking of going through an amp. Now someone told me to get my stereo louder I would need some dealie called a sound processor because factory stereos only go so loud to protect factory speakers. I have no idea. So just let me know if Im on the right path here and if I need anything else. Oh and I am on a limited income Thanks! 2005 G6 Front door - Alpine SPR-17C 6.5" 2-way 300W speakers $89.90 Rear deck - Alpine SPR-69C 6X9" 2-way 300W speakers $94.95 Amplifier - Alpine MRP-F300 4 channel $143.70 Sound processor - MTX re-q $69.90 - Is this right?
The only thing I would change is the RE-Q for a audiocontrol LC6i. The mtx only offers 2.5 volts full range to the amp. Dont forget you will need to purchase power wire from the battery to the amp as well ground wire and fuse holder. All else looks good.
Thanks for the advice. I was hoping you could continue to help since you know what I'm trying to do. I am an extreme novice at this and I wouldn't have even known to buy the additional wiring and fuse holder. I found the AC LC6i on ebay and crutchfield. It is $10 cheaper on ebay but I'll think I'll go with crutchfield for the installation guide and free tech support. I think I found what I needed as far as the wiring goes but please let me know if I'm right http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KICKER-PK8-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item20af8de3f2 or http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KICKER-PK4-...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2305733d42 I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.
the diff is the size of the wire, the lower the number the BIGGER the wire is, bigger is better. You will also need a battery terminal to hook up your power wire. I think you are off to a nice start. Save up some money so you can get a subwoofer, it makes a huge difference.
Thats funny you say that cause I was actually thinking about adding a subwoofer. It looks like a good affordable one would be the Alpine SWE-1243. Please correct me if I'm wrong. If I do add a subwoofer should I buy a bigger amp or possibly purchase another just for the subwoofer. I don't want to blow the roof off my car just want a lil thump to my music.
for a subwoofer you need to buy a seperate amp. There are all kinds of them out there, they start at about 150 up to about 5000 dollars. Alpines type E is a nice starting point, if you can afford it look at the type R. Just wondering if there is a reason why you want all Alpine? If you really like your music a subwoofer is the best thing you could buy for your car, it makes a huge difference in sound quality. You wont be dissapointed.
I just really like Alpine. If there is something as there just as good and alittle cheaper let me know. If I'm going to put my sub on another amp should I downgrade to a 2-channel amp for the car speakers. And do I need just a one-channel for the sub. There's a guy here in my hometown that does installations. He used to do it for a living but got laidoff. Now he works on the rigs but does installations on his days off.
I still only need the one sound processor right? Also I found the Alpine MRP-M500 for under $150 so I think I'll go with it. Am I going to need two power wires, grounds, and fuse holders now? Oh and thank you so much for helping me out!
no you will not need another power wire, it will be connected to your battery and will be run to your trunk. You will need something called a distribution block, which you connect the 1 power wire into and then you can connect 2 power wires out to your amps. It will also have 2 fuses in it for safety. You also should have a fuse close to your battery. Then the amps will have a short ground wire from each one. Im sure your installer will help you with the block and fuses, dont worry they are not expensive. As for the processor the one you got LC6I (right) is fine, it is a 6 channel, its a very nice unit and will give you a great signal to your amps. You will have a nice system when your finished.
You sure do know alot buddy. I have a question I forgot to ask earlier. Can you point to the type of battery terminal I need on ebay please
The power kit you are buying might have one in it, not sure though. All you might need is just a small ring terminal or a complete battery terminal. Stinger makes really nice ones but to be honest just let your installer decide what you need, I dont want you to be spending extra $$$ on something that you dont need. You can also check out knukonceptz.com and look at their car audio stuff, they really have top notch stuff at really good prices. I really think you will have a nice system when you are done, please let us know how it turns out, and of course if you have any other questions just ask. Just to warn you, car audio is like a drug, once you start you cant stop.
I would stay away from KnuKonceptz.com. I ordered 2 distribution centers for the boat and after the install realized we didn't need them. They are charging me a %10 restocking fee. That's bull$hit! Go with another vendor that doesn't charge the restocking fee!
i understand your anger about the restocking fee, and yes it is bull, but please do not thread jack unless it is to help this person out.
Hey guys! I'm having some trouble with the installations. For one, this installation got put off because I was in a wreck. I'm ok and after a month my car is ready to go. The real bad thing is the guy who was suppose to help me with all this moved away. My speakers were installed by the people who fixed my car. I had a guy who knows alot about installations but has never heard of a sound processor. He's alittle confused on how to get power to the LC6i. I don't know what to do. Any help!
You have a 12 volt and ground inputs, the 12 volt can come from your distribution block, then just run the ground wire. When you connect the speaker wires it will detect the signal and turn the unit on and when you turn the radio or ignition off it will turn the unit off, its called signal sensing, they do it like this since most factory head units dont have a remote turn on. In case you do have a remote turn on you can just hook up that, it should sense it either way. It also has a remote out which you can hook up a wire to the output and connect that to you amps remote turn on. Hope all goes well.
So let me just make sure I know what you are saying. I have a 4 ga wire that came in my kit for my amp. I have this distibution block that came in my kit as well I can wire an 8 ga from the output to my amp and then wire the 12 ga, which the LC6i calls for, from the output to the LC6i Let me know if I'm right and also if this distribution block is ok. Thanks!
If you can run 4 guage from the block to the amps, but 8 is okee dokee if your not running tons of power. I am on my way to Vegas tomorrow so if i dont answer your questions im not ignoring you, im just not here, ill be back Friday.
