I'm looking for a 5 channel amp with around 50-60 x 4 at 4ohms and around 100-150 at 4ohms for the sub. I came across a few soundstreams that fit the bill and was wondering if they are any good. I would like to keep the price down around 200 closer to 250 if better amp and 300 MAX. I'm trying to replace 2 amps that I have now and think that 1 amp would take up less room , so smaller amps would be great also.Is it ok for an amp to be mounted to the sub box? Any info or suggestions on a 5 channel amp would be great.

Yes Soundstream makes good stuff, look at the Rubicon 5.800 amp, Also Alphasonic PMZ 12005A or the Boston Acoustics GTA 1005. As for mounting the amp on the box, its ok.

Actually most manufacturers do not recommend mounting your amp on the box because of the added vibrations that could damage the amp, but I've done it before and never had a problem so maybe it's just jargon.

Also look at the PowerBass ASA 1100.5X or the 700.5X if that is too much power.

I have it narrowed down (but am open to suggestions) to soundstream px5.580 powerbass asa700.5x hifonix zxi8010 and possibly the jbl gto5355. Leaning towards the powerbass as it is the smallest.Just checked on the infinity 53350a and kappa five. Kappa five is the smallest of my choices so far. Anybody have any input on an infinity 5 channel?

I just went through the 5 channel amp search last month. I don't think you can beat the price of Powerbass. I went with the Powerbass 1100.5. The 1100.5 is the same price as the 700.5. There are a few things in life you can never have enough of and stereo power is one of them. I'm sure you know the rest!

I've also been thinking of getting two amps instead of a 5 channel. A 75x4 for the fronts and sub(bridged at 200)and a 60x2 for rears or 40x4 bridged for fronts(100) and 60x4 for rear and sub(bridged at 150) or even 60x4 for front and rear and 60x2 bridged for sub.Any suggestions on combinations of these amps would be great also.My fronts are max 100, rears 55 and sub 250.Any thoughts or opinions? Lastly , it will be going in an 02 blazer.I was trying to keep as much cargo space as possible in the back.Is there a good location for the 5 channel or 2 other amps?

Space made my decision easy or should I say the lack of space made it easy. My truck is a quad cab but all the space SWMBO and my son take up. I had no choice but to make sure everything (subs, amp, and A/V unit) fit under seats. I could have made two amps work but to much of a pain in my A$$ putting one under each seat. So, I took the easy way out and ran one amp. Now when I get my new car in 6 months look out! :D Going big and loud! But I'll have the trunk space.

Look at the JL Audio 900.5 and the Arc Audio KKD series of amps. They are high quality and sound great!

The JL is too much money and power. The Arc might be ok , but is also more than I was looking to spend. I was trying to keep it around 200 - 250 maybe up to 300 for a better amp. I can get a soundstream px 5.580 5 channel 55x4 and 160 x1 for aound 195. I also like the Kappa Five's specs. And possibly the powerbass asa 1100.5. These amps all have 2 channel input which is nice because I only have 1 set of pre-outs on head unit. How high of a power rating should I go up to with 55rms max speakers in the rear? The front are 100.

Ok I've got it down to 5 choices(I think).
    Soundstream lw 5.830 70x4 + 180 170$
    Soundstream rub 5.800 70x4 + 200 185$
    Powerbass asa 700.5x 50x4 + 200 200$
    Powerbass asa 1100.5x 75x4 + 250 225$
    Infinity kappa five 50x4 + 200 280$
The infinity is the smallest but also the most $$ Any thoughts ?? My speakers are at 100w rms 55w rms and 250 rms all at 4ohms.
